A projector includes: a white light generator that uses a blue laser as a light source to generate blue light and yellow light based on the blue laser and generates white light including the generated blue light and yellow light; and an optical system that modulates light based on the white light generated by the white light generator with an image display element and projects the modulated light, wherein the white light generator includes: a dichroic mirror that is irradiated with the blue light from the blue laser as the light source; a first condenser lens that focuses blue light being reflected by or passing through the dichroic mirror; a diffusion plate that diffuses the blue light focused by the first condenser lens; a second condenser lens that focuses the blue light passing through or being reflected by the dichroic mirror; and a phosphor that emits yellow light.

A projector generates white light from a laser light source and uses the white light for image display. The white light generator has a rectangular light generating lens that generates excitation light of a rectangular shape from the blue light of a blue laser and a phosphor wheel, coated with a phosphor that is irradiated with the excitation light, to emit yellow light. In the phosphor wheel, a length in the vertical direction of a rectangular shape of an irradiation region is represented by v, and a length in the horizontal direction is represented by h, wherein h&#x3c;v; and a center of the rectangular shape is within any one of a region having an angle of 45&#xb0; or more and 135&#xb0; or less and a region having an angle of 225&#xb0; or more and 315&#xb0; or less in the phosphor coat region of the phosphor wheel.

A projection video display device includes a projection video display main body (main body) including a light source and a video display element and generating a video to be projected, a portrait converter that rotates the video generated by the main body around an optical axis by 90&#xb0;, and a projection lens that magnifies and projects the video rotated by the portrait converter. The main body rotates directions of OSD (On Screen Display) images and in the video generated by the video display element to an opposite direction to or in the same direction as a rotation direction of the video by the portrait converter by 90&#xb0;. Accordingly, the OSD image can be displayed in a direction in which it is easy for the user to see in portrait projection screens.

Projection video display device

The projector appropriately generates white light from a laser light source and uses the white light for image display. A white light generator that generates white light from blue light and yellow light includes a dichroic mirror that is irradiated with blue light from a blue laser, a first condenser lens that focuses the blue light that has passed through the dichroic mirror, a diffusion plate that diffuses the focused blue light, a second condenser lens that focuses the blue light obtained by allowing the diffused blue light to pass through the dichroic mirror, and a phosphor that is irradiated with the focused blue light to emit yellow light; the diffusion plate is an alumina ceramic plate; the dichroic mirror has a first region that transmits one of the blue light and the yellow light and reflects the other and a second region that reflects or transmits both.

A projection video display apparatus includes an input unit to input a video signal; a display to display the inputted video signal; a plurality of light sources to generate light; an illumination optical system to guide the generated light to the display; a projection optical system to project light via the display; and a controller to control the light sources, a lighting ratio and a current value per time for each light source. The controller has a black display control mode, for each light source, which makes a relative rate of a lighting ratio for a light source with a specific color smaller than the other light sources, and reduces the current value of the other light sources to be less than a current value of the light source with the specific color when compared with a case where the input video signal is a white signal.

In a projection-type image display apparatus configured to project images formed on a display element by using light from a plurality of light sources, the apparatus includes light-source coolers provided to the light sources and configured to cool the light sources, and the light-source coolers are arranged so that light-source heat dissipating directions of all the light-source coolers are substantially the same among the light-source coolers the light-source heat dissipating directions being directed toward heat dissipating parts dissipating the heat of the light sources with reference to heat absorbing parts absorbing the heat of the light sources.

Projection-type image display apparatus

A projection-type video image display apparatus measures quantity of light of a plurality of light sources by maintaining illuminance distribution of an illumination luminous flux. The apparatus includes R, B and G light sources, and a mirror configured to reflect white light obtained by synthesizing the light rays emitted from the respective light sources while making the white light pass through the mirror based on predetermined transmittance characteristics. An illuminance sensor disposed on the mirror's back surface and configured to measure quantity of light for each color of the white light which passed through the mirror, and a controller adjusts an amount of light emission of the light source of each color based on the quantity of light measured. The mirror allows the transmittance characteristics of each light transmittance in the center wavelengths of the R and B lights sources to be larger than those of the G light source.

Projection-type video image display apparatus

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a projection type image display apparatus which is simple in configuration, low in price, and improved in reliability and brightness of an illumination light source. The present invention is a projection type image display apparatus provided with: a lamp; a reflector that reflects a light flux emitted from the lamp; a collimating lens that collimates the light reflected by the reflector; a light modulation device that modulates the collimated light to output the modulated light; and a projection lens that projects the modulated light. The reflector is configured to prevent the lamp from being irradiated with the reflected light of the light flux emitted from the lamp, and the collimating lens is formed of one biconcave lens having concave surfaces on both the incident side and the exit side.

Projection type image display apparatus for improving illumination of a light source

A display apparatus is provided which, when projecting a video onto a curved surface of an object for display, can realize an undistorted display of the video. The measuring means outputs the distance information representing the distance to the object. Based on the distance information produced by the measuring means, the curved surface contour is detected with high precision. According to at least the detected curved surface contour distortions, pixels of the display image are unevenly rearranged to correct the video information before it is output. This arrangement realizes an undistorted display of video when the video is projected onto the curved surface of the object.
