A powder metal material for additive manufacturing contains: (A) a non-magnetic steel powder which is free of nitrogen; and (B) a ferrovanadium nitride powder, and a particle size of the component (B) is 15.0 μm≤D50≤25.0 μm in terms of volume average particle size, and a content of the component (B) is 0.3 mass % to 3.0 mass % with respect to a total amount of the powder metal material.

Provided is a heat exchanger in which first flow paths for flowing a first fluid and second flow paths for flowing a second fluid are arranged adjacent via a partition wall through which heat exchange is performed. A refractory magnesium alloy includes magnesium as a principal ingredient, and an element having a radius 9&#x2013;14% larger than a magnesium atom and a maximum concentration of 2 mass % or larger in a solid solution with magnesium is mixed in an amount not exceeding a maximum amount that can be homogeneously mixed in the solid solution with magnesium, whereby internal strength of grains thereof is enhanced. Alternatively, gadolinium with a content thereof ranging from 0.5 to 3.8 mass % is added, so that remaining part other than the gadolinium is composed of the magnesium and unavoidable impurities. This magnesium alloy serves to inhibit decrease in proof stress and creep deformation, especially primary creep deformation when used at high temperatures, typically at 200&#xb0; C. The magnesium alloy may be employed for a structural material for a vehicle, so that a lightweight and heat-resistant structural material can be obtained.

A thixocast casting material is formed of an Fe&mdash;C&mdash;Si based alloy in which an angle endothermic section due to the melting of a eutectic crystal exists in a latent heat distribution curve and has a eutectic crystal amount Ec in a range of 10% by weight<Ec<50% by weight. This composition comprises 1.8% by weight&lE;C&lE;2.5% by weight of carbon, 1.4% by weight&lE;Si&lE;3% by weight if silicon and a balance of Fe including inevitable impurities.

A construction is provided in which a drain hole provided with internal threads in a Mg alloy oil pan is closed with a screw-type plug body constituted by a metal other than Mg and Mg alloy. A metallic mold-casting method excellent in the resistance to penetration is herein disclosed and the method comprises the steps of forming a coating layer by applying a mixture comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of high melting metals, ceramic materials and graphite, and an aqueous surfactant solution or low boiling liquid oils and fats to at least part of the surface of a metallic mold on its cavity side, then applying heat to the coated portion to thus adhere the mixture to the inner surface of the mold, and thereafter repeatedly casting a magnesium alloy in the metallic mold provided with the coating layer. The metallic mold-casting method permits the metallic mold casting of magnesium alloys with good resistance to penetration and this accordingly leads to the production of a cheap and high quality cast magnesium alloy product.

In carrying out of a thixocasting process, a material in a semi-molten state is produced by heating an aluminum alloy material which has a thermal characteristic that a first angled endothermic section generated by the melting of a eutectic crystal and a second angled endothermic section generated by the melting of a component having a melting point higher than an eutectic point exist in a differential calorimetric curve. A start point of a primary pressing stage is established at a point when the temperature T of the material is in a range of T.sub.1 &lt;T.ltoreq.T.sub.4 in the relationship between the temperature T.sub.1 of a rise-start point in the first angled endothermic section and the temperature T.sub.4 of a peak of the second angled endothermic section. At the primary pressing stage, the charging of the material into the cavity in a casting mold is completed. A start point of a secondary pressing stage is established at a point when the temperature T of the material is in a range of T.sub.1 &lt;T.ltoreq.T.sub.3 in the relationship between the temperature T.sub.1 of the rise-start point in the first angled endothermic section and the temperature T.sub.4 of a drop-end point in the first angled endothermic section. At the secondary pressing stage, the material is solidified.

Thixocasting process of an alloy material

In a thixocasting process, the following steps are used: a step of subjecting, to a heating treatment, an Al-Si based alloy material having a hypo eutectic crystal composition and a characteristic that a first angled endothermic section appearing due to the melting of a eutectic crystal and a second angled endothermic section appearing due to the melting of a component having a melting point higher than a eutectic point exist in a differential calorimetric curve, thereby preparing a semi-molten Al-Si based alloy material having solid and liquid phases coexisting therein; a step of pouring the semi-molten Al-Si based alloy material into a cavity in a casting mold under pressure; and a step of solidifying the semi-molten Al-Si based alloy material under pressure. When the temperature of a rise-start point in the first angled endothermic section is represented by T.sub.1, and the temperature of a drop-end point the first angled endothermic sections is represented by T.sub.2, the casting temperature T for the semi-molten Al-Si based alloy material is set in a range of T.sub.1 .ltoreq.T.ltoreq.T.sub.2. Thus, the fine precipitation of a primary crystal Si phase can be realized to provide an increase in strength of an aluminum alloy cast product.
