Plant growth regulators comprising, as an active ingredient, a substituted dicarboxylic acid derivative having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are the same as defined in the present specification, the substituted dicarboxylic acid derivatives, and processes for preparing the same, are disclosed. The plant growth regulators provided according to the present invention have a regulating activity on plant growth; more specifically, an action thereof of lowering the content of endogenous ethylene in a plant is utilized.

Plant growth regulators comprising, as an active ingredient, a substituted dicarboxylic acid derivative having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, D and G are the same as defined in the present specification, the substituted dicarboxylic acid derivatives, and processes for preparing the same, are disclosed. The plant growth regulators provided according to the present invention have a regulating activity on plant growth; more specifically, an action thereof of lowering the content of endogenous ethylene in a plant is utilized.

A composition for regulating the growth of plants which comprises as active ingredients an effective amount of (E)-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-1-pentene-3-ol and one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of 2-chloro-4,6-bis(ethylamino)-s-triazine, 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-s-triazine and a phenoxyacetic acid type compound represented by the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a chlorine atom or methyl group, and R.sub.2 represents a carboxymethyl, carboxyethyl or carboxypropyl group, and an inert carrier.

Composition for regulating plant growth

An axillary bud regulating composition for tobacco plants is provided, which contains a chlorobenzoylamino derivative of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is a hydrogen or chlorine atom. This composition is applied with a small concentration to tobacco plants. It does no harm to tobacco taste at all and has small persistency. It is able to control axillary buds grown as long as 4-5 cm and has enough rain-resistance.
