A zoom lens includes three lens units which are a first unit having a negative refracting power, a second unit having a positive refracting power, and a third unit having a positive refracting power arranged in the stated order from the side of an original surface. Zooming is effected by changing an air space between the first unit and the second unit and an air space between the second unit and the third unit. A color image reading apparatus comprises at least three line sensors arranged at predetermined intervals in the sub-scanning direction, an imaging optical system including at least one anamorphic lens for forming an image of an original on the line sensors, and a drive means for driving the original and the line sensors relative to each other in the sub-scanning direction. Each line sensor has a plurality of light receiving pixels arranged in the main-scanning direction. The apparatus satisfies the requirement expressed by the formula &verbar;Dis(s)&verbar;<0.25W/S,, where S,is the distance separating adjacently located line sensors, W is the width of the light receiving pixels in the sub-scanning direction and Dis(s) is the distortion component of the imaging optical system in the sub-scanning direction.

Color imaging reading apparatus

In an image reading apparatus, an original is illuminated and an image of image information on the original surface is formed on a surface of a line sensor by an imaging system. The imaging system includes a zoom lens each element of which is so constructed as to obtain a predetermined effective F-number on a side of the line sensor of the zoom lens independently of zooming. The zoom lens has an aperture stop the diameter of which is adapted to change in synchronism with zooming to obtain a predetermined effective F-number on the side of the line sensor.

Image reading apparatus

An optical scanning apparatus in which the luminous flux emitted from a light source is deflected by a deflecting device and formed by an optical device into a spot-shaped image on a plane to be scanned. The optical device has first and second toric lenses. The first toric lens has both lens surfaces formed into aspherical shapes in the main scanning cross section and has a meniscus shape in which a concave surface faces the deflecting device in the vicinity of the center of scanning and which provides a positive refractive power. The second toric lens has both lens surfaces formed into aspherical shapes in the main scanning cross section and has a meniscus shape in which a convex surface faces the deflecting device in the vicinity of the center of scanning and which provides a positive refractive power. Sections of the toric lenses perpendicular to a generating line in a sub-scanning cross section both have meniscus shapes which provide concave surfaces facing the deflecting device and which provide a positive refractive power.

A scanning optical apparatus includes a light source, deflector for deflecting a light beam emitted from the light source, and optical device for directing the light beam emitted from the light source onto a surface to be scanned. The optical device includes a diffracting optical element. An aberration fluctuation in a sub-scanning direction resulting from environmental fluctuation of the scanning optical apparatus is corrected by the characteristic of the optical device.

An image forming apparatus includes an illuminating device for illuminating a projection image. The illuminating device includes a light source having of a collector-mirror-incorporated lamp, an adapter lens capable of being mounted in or dismounted out of an optical path, and a field lens capable of moving on the optical axis. A projection lens projects the projection image under illumination of the illuminating device onto a projection surface.

An apparatus for projecting an original image onto a screen or a photosensitive drum includes a controller for correcting a light amount of an original illumination lamp along a scanning direction of the original image. An original scanning apparatus comprising original support means on which an original is rested, elongated light source means for illuminating the original rested on the original support means, reflection means for reflecting light from the elongated light source means toward the original support means. The elongated light source means is fixed and the reflection means being shiftable, so that the original rested on the original support means is scanned by shifting the reflection means. Apparatus further includes side reflector means disposed at a longitudinal end of the elongated light source means and extending along a shifting direction of the reflection means.
