A weld bead shaping apparatus including: a gouging torch for gouging an object to be shaped; a shape sensor for measuring a shape of the object; a slider apparatus and an articulated robot for driving the gouging torch and shape sensor; an image processing apparatus; and a robot controlling apparatus. The image processing apparatus includes: a shape data extracting unit extracting shape data of the object, from a measurement result obtained by the shape sensor; and a weld reinforcement shape extracting/removal depth calculating unit calculating a weld reinforcement shape of the weld bead from a difference between the shape data and a preset designated shape of the object, and calculating a removal depth by which gouging is performed, based on the weld reinforcement shape. The robot controlling apparatus controls the slider apparatus, the articulated robot, and the gouging torch based on the weld reinforcement shape and the removal depth.

A printer is configured by creating a printer menu structure and installing the printer menu structure on the printer. The printer menu structure is installed on an erasable storage device in the printer. The installation of the printer menu structure replaces or extends any menu structure previously installed on the printer. Prior to installing the printer menu structure on the printer, the system simulates operation of the printer menu structure. The printer menu structure has a hierarchy of menu elements, each of which has an associated menu element type and an associated action. A method of manufacturing an optic transmission module assures a high reliability for the module by inspecting the character of a low bit error rate (BER) of the module quickly and accurately. The module is employed in an optical communication system (light transmission system) required to cope with information communication systems that are becoming faster and faster in operation and larger and larger in capacity. Also disclosed is a system and a method for inspection of the BER character which uses a rectangular wave pulse as an interference light to calculate a degradation quantity of a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) on the basis of a simple theory, thereby inspecting the BER character by extrapolating a case in which there is no interference light (S/X&equals;&infin; or X&equals;0) with use of a sign error rate theoretical value according to a bit error rate of a light signal measured according to the degradation quantity.
