An apparatus and a method for removing unburned carbon from fly ash capable of suppressing facility cost and stably conducting performance adjustment depending on property of the fly ash. The method comprises the steps of: adding water to fly ash to produce slurry; adding collector to the slurry, feeding the slurry and the collector to a static-type mixer, a venturi pipeor the like to add shearing force to them; adding frother to them to generate air bubbles; and adhering unburned carbon of the fly ash to the air bubbles to raise the unburned carbon. The frother and air can be fed to the static-type mixer or the like together with the slurry and the collector. Depending on the change in property of the fly ash, the number of the static-type mixers or the like used in series can be increased or decreased, and depending on required capacity, the number of the static-type mixers or the like used in parallel may be increased or decreased. The static-type mixer may comprise a guide vane chamberwith plurality of guide vanesfor converting the slurry and the like, which are fed to the chamber, to spiral flow, and a current cutter chamberwith plurality of mushroom-shaped projectionsfor adding shearing force to the slurry and the like.

Apparatus and method for removing unburned carbon from fly ash

Unburned carbon is efficiently removed from fly ash, and effective utilization of the fly ash and removed unburned carbon is attained. Water is added to fly ash to thereby obtain a slurry. A collector is added to the slurry, and shearing force is applied to the slurry and collector to thereby attain a surface modification. The mixture is subjected to flotation operation at which unburned carbon of fly ash is attached to froths and surfaced. The application of shearing force to the slurry and collector can be carried out by means of a submerged agitator whereby an agitation power of 0.7 to 10 kWh/mis applied per unit quantity of slurry. The fly ash concentration of the slurry is in the range of 3 to 50 wt. %, and the amount of collector added is in the range of 5 to 100 wt. % based on the amount of unburned carbon of fly ash. The unburned carbon separated by flotation can be used as fuel, and the fly ash (product) having its unburned carbon content reduced to 1 wt. % or below can be used as a cement mixing material or a raw material for production of lightweight aggregate.

Method of removing unburned carbon from fly ash

Unburned carbon is efficiently separated according to the properties of fly ash. An apparatus is provided which comprises: a slurry preparation tank () in which water (c) is added to fly ash (a) to produce a slurry (d); a scavenger addition device () for adding a scavenger (e) to the slurry (d); a vertical surface-modification device () in which the slurry after addition of the scavenger is stirred at a high speed to impart shear force thereto and thereby cause the scavenger (e) to adhere to the surface of unburned carbon (b) contained in the slurry; a regulating tank () in which a blowing agent (f) is added to the slurry (d') which has undergone surface modification with the surface modification device; and a flotation machine () with which the unburned carbon (b) is floated together with bubbles (n) and separated from the slurry containing the blowing agent.

Apparatus for removing unburned carbon in fly ash

A method comprising; a step in which unburned carbon contained in coal ash is mechanically separated with a classifier; a step in which the coal ash from which part of the unburned carbon has been removed with the classifier is pulverized or disaggregated with a pulverizer; a step in which water is added to the coal ash pulverized or disaggregated with the pulverizer to obtain a slurry; a step in which a scavenger is added to the slurried coal ash; a step in which a shear force is applied to the slurry containing the scavenger to cause the scavenger to selectively adhere to the unburned carbon contained in the coal ash; a step in which a foaming agent is added to the slurry in which the scavenger has adhered to the unburned carbon; and a step in which the unburned carbon is floated on the slurry containing the foaming agent together with bubbles and is separated.

The object is to remove unburned carbon in a fly ash in a stable and economically advantageous manner. A fly ash, water and a trapping agent are mixed together in a hybrid mixer (), a shearing force is applied to the mixture to prepare a slurry containing surface-modified unburned carbon within a short time, a foaming agent is added to the slurry, and then the unburned carbon is separated by performing flotation separation in a flotator ().

Disclosed is a method for removing unburned carbon from fly ash at low cost and within a short time. The method comprises the steps of adding a collecting agent to fly ash directly, agitating/mixing the mixture in a mixer (), adding water to the resulting mixed material in a mixing vessel () to yield a slurry, applying a shearing force to the slurry in a submerged stirrer (), and performing flotation separation of unburned carbon in a flotator ().
