A plate handling apparatus includes a loader, first and second air cylinders, and first and second detection units. The loader is supported to be movable substantially parallel to a paper convey direction and swingable in directions to come close to and be spaced apart from an outer surface of a plate cylinder to perform plate removal/supply. The first air cylinder moves the loader among a first position close to the plate cylinder, a second position spaced apart from the first position in the paper convey direction, and a third position which is between the first position and the second position. The second air cylinder swings the loader among a first swing state where the loader is substantially perpendicular to the paper convey direction, a second swing state where the loader is inclined such that its distal end faces the plate cylinder, and a third swing state which is between the first swing state and the second swing state. The first detection unit detects a position of the loader in the paper convey direction. The second detection unit detects a swing state of the loader.

A plate changing method and an apparatus for rotating all plate cylinders of a plurality of printing units by a drive device, and performing plate changing by plate changing unit provided in correspondence with the plate cylinders has an abnormality detection step of detecting presence or absence of a plate changing abnormality by detectors provided in correspondence with the plate cylinders, a step of stopping the drive device when the plate changing abnormality is detected in the abnormality detection step, a return step of controlling at least one of the drive device and the plate changing unit of a normal unit, other than an error unit in which the plate changing abnormality has been detected, in accordance with the status of progress of plate changing in the normal unit after the stop step, and an error elimination step of eliminating the plate changing abnormality in the error unit after the stop step.

Method and apparatus for plate changing in a plate cylinder of a printing press

A plate handling method and apparatus for a printing press that includes printing units, each having a plate cylinder, a main unit motor for driving the plate cylinders, and electromagnetic clutches disposed between the main unit motor and the printing units for transmitting and cutting off a drive force from the main unit motor to the printing units, and is adapted to rotate the plate cylinders upon the drive by the main unit motor and change plates. The electromagnetic clutch of the printing unit is disengaged, when an abnormality in changing of the plate was detected by any of sensors provided in each printing unit for detecting an abnormality in plate changing, to cut off the drive by the main unit motor, but continue plate changing in the other printing units by the drive force from the main unit motor.

Plate handling method and apparatus for printing press

A safety apparatus for a rotary press comprises a detector disposed on a side of a plurality of printing units in order to detect entry of a foreign object between the printing units, the detector consisting of light projecting units and light receiving units; a push button provided on the printing unit and pushed after completion of checking performed before initiation of automatic plate-replacing operation of the printing units; and a controller for starting the automatic plate-replacing operation and detecting operation of the detector when a predetermined time elapses after operation of the button.
