An image forming apparatus includes first and second processors controlling first and second image formers that form first and second images using color material having first and second color compositions, the second image to be superimposed on the first image; and a display displaying information. If an image formation instruction, including information indicating that the first and second images are to be superimposed is received, with a different image formation instruction being received, the first processor causes the first image former to form the first image in accordance with a first image formation instruction, corresponding to the first color composition, out of the image formation instruction and the different image formation instruction; and transmit to the second processor a second image formation instruction corresponding to the second color composition. The second processor causes the second image former to form the second image in accordance with the second image formation instruction.

An image forming apparatus including a first processor configured to control a first image former that forms a first image using a color material having a first color composition and a second processor configured to control a second image former that forms, using a color material having a second color composition, a second image to be superimposed on the first image. The first processor is configured to cause the first image former to form the first image in accordance with a first image formation instruction, corresponding to the first color composition, out of the image formation instruction and the first different image formation instruction, and transmit to the second processor a second image formation instruction corresponding to the second color composition. The second processor is configured to cause the second image former to form the second image in accordance with the second image formation instruction.

An image forming apparatus includes a first processor configured to control a transporter that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter, and a second processor configured to control a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter. The first processor and the second processor are contained in a single housing. The first processor is configured to perform transport preparation for transporting the sheet at the transporter and receive, from the second processor, a completion notification corresponding to a preparation command, for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section, transmitted to the second processor via an inside of the housing, and subsequently cause the transporter to transport the sheet and the first image forming section to form the image.

An image forming apparatus including a first processor and a second processor are provided. When the two processors receive a cooperative command for forming images respectively at first and second image forming sections, the first processor transmits a preparation command for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section to the second processor, and the second processor performs the image formation preparation in the second image forming section and transmits a completion notification to the first processor upon completion, and the first processor executes an image forming process. When the first processor receives an independent command for forming an image at the first image forming section but not at the second image forming section and subsequently receives the cooperative command, the first processor transmits the preparation command corresponding to the cooperative command to the second processor upon completion of an image forming process corresponding to the independent command.

The first processor controls a transporter that transports a sheet and a first image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter. The second processor controls a second image forming section that forms an image on the sheet transported by the transporter. When the first processor and the second processor receive a single image formation command from an external source, the first processor transmits a preparation command for performing image formation preparation in the second image forming section to the second processor, the second processor, when receiving the preparation command, performs the image formation preparation in the second image forming section and transmits a completion notification to the first processor upon completion of the image formation preparation, and the first processor, after receiving the completion notification, subsequently executes an image forming process including causing the transporter to transport the sheet and causing the first image forming section to form the image. If the first processor receives multiple image formation commands from the external source before transmitting the preparation command to the second processor, the first processor transmits multiple preparation commands corresponding to the multiple image formation commands to the second processor and executes the image forming process in a sequence in which multiple completion notifications corresponding to the multiple preparation commands are received from the second processor.
