A drivetrain component includes a first housing arranged to be rotated by a vehicle motive power source, a second housing, differential gears coupled to the second housing, and first and second clutches that define at least part of a disconnect mechanism and a locking mechanism. The first clutch has a disengaged state in which the first housing rotates relative to the second housing, and the first clutch has an engaged state in which the second housing is coupled to and rotates with the first housing. The second clutch has a disengaged state in which a first shaft can rotate at a different speed than a second output shaft, and the second clutch has an engaged state in which the first shaft and the second shaft rotate at the same speed.

Differential with disconnect and locking mechanisms

A rotary power transmission device, includes a housing, a pinion gear shaft received within the housing and having an axis, a pinion gear rotatable relative to the pinion gear shaft, and first and second clutch members. The first clutch member has a rotational axis, radial inner and outer surfaces, front and rear faces, and multiple teeth at the front face. The second clutch member is coaxially arranged with the first clutch member, and has radial inner and outer surfaces, front and rear faces, and multiple teeth. The pinion gear has an interface surface extending radially from the opening and the radial inner surface of the first clutch member is located axially outwardly of the interface surface and the radial inner surface of the first clutch member fully overlaps the interface surface.

Rotary power transmission device with clutch

A vehicle power transfer unit assembly comprises an input shaft, an intermediate shaft at least partially surrounding the input shaft, a central shaft adjacent the input shaft, a peripheral shaft at least partially surrounding the central shaft, a first shift collar, and a second shift collar. The first shift collar is operable between a first position where torque is transferred from the input shaft to the intermediate shaft and a second position where torque is not transferred from the input shaft to the intermediate shaft. The second shift collar is operable between a third position where torque is transferred from the input shaft to the peripheral shaft and a fourth position where torque is transferred from the input shaft to the central shaft.

Shifting mechanism for a vehicle power transfer unit

A gear assembly includes an input shaft, a drive ring gear assembly, a pair of input/ring bearings, a driven pinion gear assembly, a first and second clutch members, and an actuator assembly. The first cutch member is fixedly connected to the input shaft. The drive ring gear assembly is mounted about the input shaft. The input/ring bearings are mounted so as to straddle the drive ring gear. The driven pinion gear assembly is operatively engaged with the drive ring gear. The second clutch member is slidingly mounted to the drive ring gear and the actuator assembly operates to move the second clutch member into engagement with the first clutch member to cause the drive ring gear to rotate when the input shaft rotates.

Power transfer unit straddle mount ring gear disconnect

A gear assembly includes an input shaft, a drive ring gear assembly, a pair of input/ring bearings, a driven pinion gear assembly, a first and second clutch members, and an actuator assembly. The first clutch member is fixedly connected to the input shaft. The drive ring gear assembly is mounted about the input shaft. The input/ring bearings are mounted so as to straddle the drive ring gear. The driven pinion gear assembly is operatively engaged with the drive ring gear. The second clutch member is slidingly mounted to the drive ring gear and the actuator assembly operates to move the second clutch member into engagement with the first clutch member to cause the drive ring gear to rotate when the input shaft rotates.
