A flexible thermoplastic composition comprises a poly(arylene ether), a first block copolymer, a second block copolymer and a flame retardant wherein the second block copolymer comprises a controlled distribution copolymer block. The flexible thermoplastic composition is useful in the manufacture of coated wires.

Poly(arylene ether) composition and articles

A multiconductor cable assembly includes two or more coated wires in a side-by-side contacting relation, and the covering of the wires includes a composition with specific proportions of a poly(arylene ether), a block copolymer, and a flame retardant. The multiconductor cable assembly can be formed by extrusion coating two or more uncoated conductors, or by passing two or more coated wires through a nip defined by two rollers to fuse the coated wires.

Multiconductor cable assembly and fabrication method therefor

A poly(arylene ether) composition includes a hydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene, a flame retardant, and a poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer reaction product that itself includes a poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer. The composition is useful for forming extruded articles, including insulation for wire and cable. The poly(arylene ether)-polysiloxane block copolymer contributes improved flame retardancy and, in many cases, improved physical properties to the composition.

Poly(arylene ether) composition and extruded articles derived therefrom

A flame retardant thermoplastic composition comprising a poly(arylene ether), a block copolymer, a liquid polyolefin, and a flame retardant additive composition. The flame retardant additive composition comprises a metal hydroxide, an organic phosphate, and a phosphoric acid salt selected from the group consisting of melamine phosphate, melamine pyrophosphate, melamine orthophosphate, melem polyphosphate, melam polyphosphate, diammonium phosphate, monoammonium phosphate, phosphoric acid amide, melamine polyphosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, polyphosphoric acid amide, and combinations of two or more of the foregoing. The block copolymer comprises a block that is a controlled distribution copolymer having terminal regions that are rich in alkylene units and a center region that is rich in aryl alkylene units. The flame retardant composition may be used in the production of covered conductors.

A flexible thermoplastic composition comprises poly(arylene ether); a plasticizer having an affinity for polyolefin; a polyolefin and a hydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene, wherein the polyolefin comprises (i) an ethylene/C-Calpha olefin copolymer having an alpha olefin content greater than or equal to about 10%, (ii) a thermoplastic vulcanizate (iii) a combination of linear low density polyethylene and a thermoplastic vulcanizate, (iv) a combination of an ethylene/C-Calpha olefin copolymer having an alpha olefin content greater than or equal to about 10%, a linear low density polyethylene, and a thermoplastic vulcanizate, (v) a combination of an ethylene/C-Calpha olefin copolymer having an alpha olefin content greater than or equal to about 10% and a thermoplastic vulcanizate or (vi) a combination of an ethylene/C-Calpha olefin copolymer having an alpha olefin content greater than or equal to about 10% and linear low density polyethylene.

Flexible poly(arylene ether)composition and articles thereof

A flame retardant additive composition comprising a phosphoric acid salt selected from the group consisting of melamine phosphate, melamine pyrophosphate, melamine orthophosphate, diammonium phosphate, monoammonium phosphate, phosphoric acid amide, melamine polyphosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, polyphosphoric acid amide and combinations of two or more of the foregoing; a metal hydroxide; and an organic phosphate. The flame retardant additive is useful in a wide range of thermoplastic compositions.

A resin composition useful for wire and cable covering material is formed by compounding a phosphate ester retardant, boron phosphate, and zinc borate hydrate with a polyphenylene ether group resin or a combination of a polyphenylene ether group resin and an aromatic vinyl group resin, in a specific ratio.

A polyphenylene ether group resin composite can comprise: polyphenylene ether group resin, flame retardation reagent, and recovered polystyrene group resin. The recovered polystyrene group resin can be recovered using limonene or thermal shrinkage recovery, and can comprises polystyrene that has been recovered from a product or a part of a product that has been used by an end customer for a period of time.
