An audible sound of modulated wave where a very low-frequency wave of about 20 hertz or lower is superposed on an audio low-frequency wave effectively stimulates Fm theta in human brain waves to improve attention and concentration during mental tasks when auditorily administered. The audible sound is also effective in stimulation of human alpha wave when the very low-frequency wave lies within the range of about 2-10 hertz. Such audible sound is artificially obtainable by generating an electric signal which contains such a modulated wave, and transducing it into audible sound wave.

The present invention is to provide means to attain an improved current efficiency and a stabilized operation even when used to generate high-power magnetic pulses at shortened pulse intervals. The load coil generates a high-frequency electromagnetic wave by supplying an electromotive force to the load coil via the high-frequency oscillator when the magnet moves within the cylindrical space.

Disclosed is a novel luminaire wherein a switching power supply circuitry is used to operate one or more incandescent lamps at a dc voltage exceeding their rating. The luminaire emits a flickerless light with a color temperature of about 2,900 K. or higher which is natural, closer to sunlight, superior in color rendering properties, gentle to the eyes, therefore very useful in illumination. The switching power supply circuitry exhibits a high power efficiency and capacity, and the output voltage is easily regulatable to a desired magnitude for lamp dimming.

The disclosure relates to an improvement of a sealed variable resistor including a variable resistor and an arm member attached to a shaft of the variable resistor enclosed in a sealing container, and rotatably supporting a dial knob about a shaft outside the sealing container such that when the dial knob is energized, the arm member moves in association by virtue of magnetic force. The reliability and operability of such a sealed variable resistor are extremely improved by forming the arm member and dial knob into a circular plate, and attaching to the arm member and dial knob at least two magnet pairs apart from each other. These render the sealed variable resistor very useful in various electrical devices which may be exposed to moisture when in use.

A novel low-frequency electrotherapeutic device wherein a low-frequency voltage having a ratio of positive voltage component to negative voltage component in the range of about 0.1:1-0.5:1 is used. The electrotherapeutic device can be advantageously used to massage human body or to iontophorese medicament thereinto without causing unwanted discomforts such as pain, inflammation and burning which are inevitable in conventional low-frequency electrotherapy.

Disclosed is a novel lighting device comprising a power source capable of supplying to an argon lamp a voltage exceeding its rating, and an argon lamp connected with an output terminal of said power source. Argon lamp emits a natural light when lighted by energizing a voltage exceeding the rating. Such a light has superior color rendering properties, as well as a color temperature of about 2,900.degree. K. or higher which is very close to that of that of early morning sunlight. Thus, the lighting device is advantageously used in luminares in general.

Disclosed is a novel switching circuit directed to use for limiting surge into lamp, comprising a diode circuit wherein two sets of diodes are connected in reverse-parallel; a resistive element connected in series with a lamp to limit the switch-on surge thereinto; a bidirectionally conductive element having a main current path connected in seried with an ac source through said resistive element, diode circuit and lamp; and a timing circuit having a time constant, said timing circuit triggering said bidirectionally conductive element with the voltage across said diode circuit to short-circuit said resistive element after a lapse of said time constant from switch-on.
