A liquid ejection head is operable to eject a liquid droplet toward a medium at a liquid ejection point A first roller transports the medium toward the liquid ejection point. A second roller ejects the medium transported from the liquid ejection point to the outside of the apparatus. At least one detection roller is directly brought into contact with the medium and is rotated in accordance with the transportation of the medium, the at least one detection roller being disposed in the vicinity of at least one of the first roller and the second roller. A detector detects a rotation amount of the detection roller. A controller controls the transportation of the medium in accordance with the rotation amount.

A carriage, on which a recording head is mounted, and to which a moving unit is connected, reciprocates a recording area by the moving unit to perform recording by the recording head. In the carriage, a recording head mount part and a connection part to the moving unit are separately provided, and the mount part and the connection part are coupled by a coupling structure having a linear elastic member. Hereby, vibration from the moving unit is shielded in the division portion and is not transmitted to the recording head mount part. Therefore, recording accuracy of the recording head can be kept in a high state.

An ink jet recording head having high printing quality which is achieved independently of ambient temperature changes. An overhang portion (22) is formed on a surface of a frame (20) in such a manner that the overhang portion extends close to an island portion (9) of a resilient plate. A front end (17) of a fixed board (14) is fixed to the overhang portion (22) so that a gap (23) is interposed between a lateral side of the fixed board (14) and the frame (20). The piezoelectric vibration elements (8) are secured to the opposite end of the fixed board and abut against each of the island portions. The thickness (L0) of the overhang portion (22) affects that thermal expansion differential derived from a difference in the materials of the frame (20) and the piezoelectric vibration element. Since the thickness is minimized, the thermal expansion differential between the frame (20) and the piezoelectric vibration elements (8) is correspondingly minimized.

As a result of this construction, a bonding area is increased by shifting the positions of the nozzle openings 18-1, 18-2, 18-3, . . . , whose diameter is particularly small, in an axial direction of the pressure generating chambers.

Laminated ink jet recording head

An ink jet printer head includes a spacer including pressure generating chambers continuous to nozzle openings, ink supply paths, and reservoirs, a cover member for covering the pressure generating chambers in a sealing fashion, and pressure generating means for generating pressure in the pressure generating chambers in accordance with print data. In processing a silicon single-crystal substrate vertically oriented in (110) by anisotropic etching process, one of the walls of a path hole for forming a pressure generating chamber is aligned with one of the walls of a path hole for forming a reservoir. Walls defining the path hole for forming a pressure generating chamber, which are located in the vicinity of a nozzle opening, are connected to each other at an obtuse angle. As a result, the ink supply path serving as a narrow path for ink flow and the pressure generating chamber are formed as smooth flow paths. The walls in an area in the vicinity of the nozzle opening where ink tends to stay are substantially equally distanced from the nozzle opening. A smooth flow of ink is ensured.

In a printer, a bottom of an automatic paper feeder is formed by a bottom itself of a printer case; an operation lever is provided for operating a hopper and separation pawls arranged in a stacker section; a spring member is used as a changeover mechanism for a paper feed-in roller; an ink shielding portion is provided over an entire print area; the paper is discharged while forcibly urging the paper in a concave shape in which its printed surface is concaved; and a changeover is effected between a paper feeding operation and a pumping operation by a carriage at both ends of a carriage-moving area.

An actuator unit for a laminated ink jet recording head includes: a first cover member for forming a vibrating member having piezoelectric vibrators on a surface thereof; a spacer for forming pressure generating chambers with a surface thereof sealed by the first cover member; a second cover member having ink jetting outlets and ink flowing inlets, each ink jetting outlet causing the corresponding pressure generating chamber to communicate with a corresponding nozzle opening of a flow path unit at one end of the pressure generating chamber, each ink flowing inlet causing the corresponding pressure generating chamber to communicate with a common ink chamber of the flow path unit at the other end of the pressure generating chamber. The actuator unit is prepared by laminating and fixing the first cover member, the spacer and the second cover member. A pitch at which the pressure generating chambers are arranged is set to a value equal to or smaller than a pitch at which the nozzle openings are arranged; widths of partition walls on outermost ends of pressure generating chambers located on the outermost ends are set to a value equal to or greater than a width of a partition wall defining adjacent pressure generating chambers and equal to or smaller than 1/2 of the nozzle opening arrangement pitch. An increase in the distance between the adjacent pressure generating chambers at the contact line between two actuator units is set to within a range of values substantially equal to the width of the partition wall.

An ink jet print head includes first terminals 22 and 22', which are located at the side ends of a cover member 2 as a vibrating plate, and are connected to discrete electrodes 6 and 6' for selectively applying signals to piezoelectric vibrators 5 and 5'. A semiconductor integrated circuit 30 includes second terminals 31 and 31' that are arrayed corresponding in position to the first terminals 22 and 22' and generates a drive signal in response to an external signal. The first terminals 22 and 22' are connected to the second terminals 31 and 31' such that a gap of H in height is formed between the semiconductor integrated circuit 30 and the piezoelectric vibrators 5 and 5'.
