In order to provide an engine oil supply apparatus including a second oil pump () which can draw in and discharge oil quickly regardless of whether or not a first oil pump () is driven and which does not need to be large, an engine oil supply apparatus (Y) includes a first oil pump () drawing oil through a first oil passage () from an oil holder () holding oil, a second oil pump () connected in series with the first oil pump () through a connection oil passage () and driven independently of the first oil pump (), a first supply oil passage () for supplying oil to a first circulation section () from the first oil pump (), and a second supply oil passage () for supplying oil to a second circulation section () from the second oil pump (). In the engine oil supply apparatus (Y), a first oil reservoir () holds oil to be supplied to the second oil pump () and is provided independently of the oil holder () is provided.

Engine oil supply apparatus

An engine is formed with a valve lifter bore with a lubricant supply opening, positioned at an axially intermediate point therealong, to which is communicated a passageway to which lubricating oil is supplied under pressure. This lubricant supply opening could be used together with a hydraulic type valve lifter. The engine also has a means (such as a cam shaft) for reciprocating a valve lifter in the valve lifter bore along a determinate stroke. The mechanical valve lifter construction of this invention includes a generally cup shaped valve lifter, with an outer cylindrical surface slidably inserted in the valve lifter bore and with an internal hollow, formed with a generally radially extending lubricant escape hole through its side from its internal hollow to its outer cylindrical surface. The lubricant escape hole opens to the outer cylindrical surface of the valve lifter at such a position that, when the valve lifter is slidably inserted in the valve lifter bore and is reciprocated therein by the reciprocating means, the lubricant escape hole does not come into register with the lubricant supply opening at any time during the movement of the valve lifter along its determinate stroke. Thereby, spurting out of the pressurized lubricating oil through the lubricant escape hole is positively prevented. This mechanical valve lifter construction thus can be applied to an engine cylinder block to which, alternatively, a hydraulic valve lifter construction can also be applied, and thus an economy in the number of parts required is effected.

A support for a heat insulator material being disposed between an outer core of a re-combustion chamber and a manifold reactor housing thereof being formed by a grommet capping the edge of the heat insulator around the inlet ports of the housing, wherein the grommet is provided with an opening for loosely holding a port liner and is disposed between the housing and the outer core and has a deformable peripheral portion which substantially encloses and engages the heat insulator in a gap created by said deformable edge portion.

A seal structure is disclosed for connection of two structural members having co-operating seal face portions clamped together with interposition of an elastic seal element, wherein stud bolts each having a central flange portion and first and second screw portions provided at opposite sides of the flange portion are screwed into corresponding threaded openings formed in the seal face portion of one structural member while the seal portion of the other structural member is clamped between the flange portions of the bolts and nuts clamped onto the second screw portion of the bolts, the elastic seal element being thicker than the flange portions of the bolts in its free condition and being compressed in the clamped condition to be of the same thickness as the flanged portions of the bolts.

An exhaust gas purifier for an internal combustion engine comprises a chamber therein for burning unburned gas in the exhaust gas from the engine and an inlet port liner for leading the exhaust gas from the engine cylinder into said chamber. The inlet port liner is rigidly fixed to the housing of the purifier by means of weld metal which is poured onto the outer surface of the inlet port liner through a hole formed on the housing of the purifier.

In a manifold reactor for an internal combustion engine, the reactor including an inner core and an outer core of elongated cylindrical form, the inner core having open, opposite ends and being concentrically placed within the outer core in spaced relation from the walls of the outer core both in the radial direction and in the axial direction; exhaust gas intake pipes extending from engine cylinders through the walls of the outer and inner cores so as to open within the inner core; and at least one exhaust-gas-discharge pipe, having one end open to an annular space defined between the wall of the outer core and the wall of the inner core, the inner core is split in the axial direction into at least two cylindrical parts which are slidingly connected to each other in air-tight relation, each part being independently secured by welding to the inner surface of the cylindrical wall of the outer core by means of supporting members. The supporting members may be formed from individual bands or by contours in the wall of the outer core. The bands, when utilized, have a central portion secured to the inner core by weld beads and preferably have cut-out areas in the sides adjoining the ends of the weld beads for avoiding thermal stress concentration at these locations.

Manifold reactor

A supporting device for a port liner through which engine exhaust gas is introduced into a manifold reactor. This supporting device comprises at least one projection for supporting the port liner between the cylinder head fixture and the outer shell of the manifold reactor.

An exhaust manifold reactor assembly usable for reducing noxious emissions from the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a reactor casing having a generally longitudinal cylindrical shape in flow communication between the exhaust port of the engine and the exhaust pipe of the exhaust system. An internal concentric core of similar shape is fixedly connected to the reactor casing at the midpoint of its length, and a second connection enabling longitudinal sliding engagement between the core and the casing is provided at another location off-center from the casing midpoint.

A manifold exhaust gas reactor for purifying exhaust gas produced in an internal combustion engine comprising an outer core and an inner core both usually made of metal plate and defining therebetween a recombustion chamber for exhaust. A plurality of screws pierce through the wall of said reactor casing in order to fit the outer core and each screw-head adjustably urged on the outer surface of said outer core in slidingly contacting relation thereto so that the outer core can be protected from stress either in the longitudinal direction or in the radial direction by adjusting said outer core fixing screws.
