A control valve driving device wherein a control valve is provided in an intake or an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine and means for driving this control valve in response to an operating condition of said internal combustion engine is provided. An opening angle of the control valve is operable to be changed to permit an intake or an exhaust characteristic to be changed. The control valve driving device is characterized in that the control valve can be driven only when a pressure in an intake or an exhaust pipe is at an acceptably low level.

Control valve driving device in an internal combustion engine

An exhaust timing controller for controlling an exhaust timing member in a two cycle engine including a control circuit for generating a control signal which actuates a mechanism for moving the exhaust timing member. The control circuit controls the member such that the member is drivable in a range from a fully open position to a fully closed position responsive to certain engine conditions including engine speed and rate of change of engine speed. A self cleaning cycle is provided which drives the exhaust timing member first to one position limit and then to the other.

Exhaust timing control device for two cycle engines

A system incorporating a pivotally mounted control valve to selectively close the upper portion of an exhaust port in a two-cycle engine including a motor coupled with the valve for driving same. A speed determination means is provided to determine the engine speed relative to a specified value. A drive means rotates the motor in either direction based on the sensing by the speed determination means. A drive current control means detects the magnitude of change of the engine speed and increases or decreases the current supplied to the motor to increase or decrease the speed of change of the control valve.

Exhaust timing control system for two-cycle engines

A two-cycle engine includes a port timing control device for varying a timing of the opening of an exhaust port by a piston. The port timing control means includes a first valve mounted within an exhaust passage adjacent to an upper end of the exhaust port and having a port timing control surface, a second valve mounted on a cylinder block between a cylinder head and the first valve and having a closure surface, and an urging member acting on the second valve to always urge it against the first valve. The first valve is operable to be angularly moved about an axis generally perpendicular to the axis of a cylinder into and out of an extended position where the control surface is disposed slightly below the upper end of the exhaust port to close a part of the exhaust port. The second valve is movable along a generally straight path into and out of an extended position where the closure surface closes that portion of the exhaust port lying between the upper end of the exhaust port and the first valve. The second valve is movable in synchronism with the angular movement of the first valve through the urging member.

Two-cycle engine

An ultrasonic air flowmeter for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle includes at least two ultrasonic transmitter-receivers. One of the ultrasonic transmitter-receivers generates ultrasonic waves toward an upstream of an air flow so that a radiation direction of the ultrasonic waves obliquely intersects a direction of the air flow. On the other hand, the other ultrasonic transmitter-receiver generates ultrasonic waves toward a downstream of the air flow in the same manner. A difference in phase between outputs of the receivers is detected to obtain a rate of the air flow.
