In a vehicle air conditioner, a case member of an inside/outside air switching portion is disposed at an approximate center in an interior unit in a vehicle width direction, to define an air passage extending in the vehicle width direction. An outside air suction port is provided in the case member, and first and second openings are opened in the case member at both side ends of the air passage in the vehicle width direction. One of the first and second openings is used as an inside air suction port, and the other one thereof is used as an outlet passage port. In addition, the outlet passage port of the case member is coupled to a suction port of a blower through a connection duct.

In an air conditioning unit of a vehicle air conditioner, an air-outlet mode switching portion is provided at an upper side of a heat exchanging portion including at least a heating heat exchanger for heating air. The air-outlet mode switching portion includes a rotary door rotatable around a rotation shaft, and the rotary door includes a circumference wall surface for opening and closing plural air outlet openings through which air is blown toward different zones of a passenger compartment. Further, the heating heat exchanger is arranged to be crossed with a horizontal surface, and a rotation space of the rotary door is provided to extend from an upper side of the heating heat exchanger to a side portion of the heating heat exchanger. Accordingly, the size of the air conditioning unit can be made smaller.

The variation in dimension of the film member or the case side is absorbed by movement of the free end.

An automotive air conditioner includes a casing, a rotary shaft rotatably supported in the casing, a rotary door connected to the rotary shaft and formed in a substantially arcuate shape, and drive means for rotating the rotary shaft. The rotary door includes a first opening defined by circumferential open ends, and a second opening defined by an arcuate circumferential wall. The casing includes a third opening, a fourth opening, and a fifth opening formed in a downstream end thereof and contiguously arranged along a circumferential surface of the rotary door. Opening areas of the third, fourth and fifth openings are adjusted by the rotary door. When the rotary door is rotated in a direction from the fifth opening toward the third opening and in a predetermined rotated position where one of the circumferential ends of the circumferential wall located at a rear end of the rotary door passes at least part of the fifth opening and opens the fifth opening, an air flows into the second opening and is directed toward the fifth opening through the first opening.

Air duct selector and automotive air conditioner

An air duct has air passages for the air to flow from the inside to the outside. An air passage switching device includes a rotary door and a film member for opening/closing and switching the air passages. The rotary door is formed with openings in its circumferential wall having an arcuate shape. The film member having ventilation holes to lap one of the openings is mounted with a slight slackness on the outer circumference of the rotary door. When this rotary door is rotationally displaced by a control cable, the air passages lapping the ventilation holes are opened, whereas the remaining air passages are closely sealed up by the film member which is expanded by a wind pressure.
