The present technology relates to an information processing apparatus and an information processing method enabling a user to visually recognize a surrounding environment promptly based on a sudden change in brightness. An information processing apparatus of the present technology includes an acquisition section that acquires environmental information which is information associated with an environment including an object present in a real space, and a display control section that exercises display control based on the environmental information with respect to form information representing a form of the object over a display section that displays predetermined information in a visually recognizable state while superimposing the predetermined information on the real space based on occurrence of a change in brightness of the real space higher than a threshold. The present technology is applicable to an HMD that displays information while superimposing the information on a scene in front of a user.

Display apparatus

The image displaying apparatus includes an image production apparatus, a first light conduction section and a second light conduction section. The first light conduction section includes a first light conduction plate which propagates part of incident light thereto by total reflection in the inside thereof and emits the propagated light, and a reflection type volume hologram diffraction grating disposed on the first light conduction plate. The second light conduction section includes a second light conduction plate, a first deflection section and a second deflection section.

An illumination optical device includes a light source, a light pipe guiding illumination light from the light source, a diffuser arranged on an emitting surface side of the light pipe. With these conditions applied to the RIM intensity and the magnification of the optical system, light utilization efficiency at the time of CD recording is ensured, while preventing this from adversely affecting DVD reproduction or recording and while ensuring a beam spot quality.
