In a connector including a conductive contact, an insulating housing holding the contact, and a conductive shell covering the housing, the housing includes a protruding portion of a flat-plate shape having first and second principal surfaces faced to each other. The contact includes a first contacting portion disposed on the first principal surface of the protruding portion and a second contacting portion extending from the first contacting portion to the second principal surface of the protruding portion. The shell includes a shell contacting portion disposed on the second principal surface of the protruding portion. The second contacting portion and the shell contacting portion have confronting end faces faced to each other.

For latching an object member, a latch member is mounted on a base member so as to be movable between a first position where the latch member does not engage the object member and a second position where the latch member engages the object member. Movement of the latch member is controlled depending on the number of times of movement of a cam member which is mounted on the base member for following movement of the object member. A lock member is interposed between the base member and at least one of the cam member and the latch member. The lock member is movable between a lock position for limiting movement of at least one of the cam member and the latch member and a non-lock position for not limiting movement of at least one of the cam member and the latch member.

Latch device requiring no complexly operating for preventing malfunction thereof

In a connector including a fitting portion to be fitted to a mating connector, signal contacts are disposed in the fitting portion in a first row. A ground plate includes a plurality of ground terminals disposed in the fitting portion in a second row parallel to the first row. These contacts are held by a housing. A conductive shell is coupled to the housing and includes a shell body partially covering these contacts, a bent portion bent inward from the shell body at an end of the fitting portion, and a protecting portion extending from the bent portion with a space which is kept between the protecting portion and the shell body. Each of the ground terminals includes a spring portion extending in the fitting portion and a free end portion extending from the spring portion and inserted into the space with being contacted with the protecting portion.

Electrical connector

A connector whose guide sections are hardly damaged by a mating connector even if it is inserted into in a prying manner. A housing is formed with a receiving hole for receiving a plug-side connector, and two guide sections at opposite ends of the receiving hole in a contact arrangement direction, for guiding the plug-side connector in a fitting direction. A shell made of a metal plate is comprised of a first covering section that covers a first outer surface of the housing, substantially parallel to the contact arrangement direction, a second covering section that covers a second outer surface of the housing, substantially parallel to the contact arrangement direction, and two connecting sections that connect the first covering section and the second covering section, and covers opposite ends of a front of the housing. The two connecting sections are each formed with a cutout having a pair of guide surfaces opposed to each other in a direction of thickness of the housing, for guiding the plug-side connector in the fitting direction.

In order to latch an object member that is movable in a predetermined direction, a latch device has a heart cam that follows movement of the object member, and a latch member that is movable between a first position where it does not engage the object member and a second position where it engages the object member in the predetermined direction. A cam follower engaging the heart cam and the latch member urges the latch member toward one of the first and second positions following movement of the heart cam. However, actual movement of the latch member is controlled by a control mechanism that operates depending on the shape and the number of times of movement of the heart cam.
