A low-density gel product of the present disclosure has a skeleton containing a polysiloxane chain and an organic polymer chain. In the skeleton, the polysiloxane chain and the organic polymer chain are bonded to each other by covalent bonds at a plurality of positions on both of the chains with silicon atoms of the polysiloxane chain as bonding points. The organic polymer chain may be an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain. The polysiloxane chain may be a polyorganosiloxane chain. The low-density gel product of the present disclosure is a novel low-density gel product with improved mechanical properties including bending flexibility.

Low-density gel product and production method therefor

In a production method of the present disclosure, a 1,1'-binaphthyl precursor derivative, an organic acid, and an iodinating or brominating agent are mixed. The 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl precursor derivative has a 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl skeleton and has an electron-donating group at the 2-position of the 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl skeleton and at the 2&#x2032;-position of the 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl skeleton, and the electron-donating group contains an oxygen atom directly bonded to the skeleton. With the production method of the present disclosure, a 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl derivative having a substituent introduced at the 8-position and/or 8&#x2032;-position of the 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl skeleton can be obtained. The 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl derivative obtained by the production method of the present disclosure can be a compound further having a substituent introduced at at least one position selected from the 4-position, 4&#x2032;-position, 5-position, 5&#x2032;-position, 6-position, and 6&#x2032;-position of the 1,1&#x2032;-binaphthyl skeleton.

The method for producing a surface-modified base material according to the present invention includes a step of bringing a base material having a polar group present on a surface thereof into contact with a hydrosilane compound having a molecular structure A and having a Si&#x2014;H group composed of a silicon atom of the molecular structure A and a hydrogen atom bonded to the silicon atom in the presence of a borane catalyst so as to allow a dehydrocondensation reaction to take place between the base material and the compound, thereby forming the base material surface-modified with the molecular structure A. This production method is capable of surface-modifying a base material at a lower temperature in a shorter time than conventional methods and allows a wide variety of options for the form, type, and application of the base material, the mode of the modification reaction, and the type of the molecular structure with which the base material is surface-modified.

Provided are a macroporous titanium compound monolith and a production method thereof, the macroporous titanium compound monolith having a framework that is composed of a titanium compound other than titanium dioxide, having controlled macropores, and having electron conductivity, the titanium compound being oxygen-deficient titanium oxide, titanium oxynitride, or titanium nitride. Provided is a method including: placing a macroporous titanium dioxide monolith and a metal having titanium-reducing ability in a container, the macroporous titanium dioxide monolith having a co-continuous structure of a macropore and a framework that is composed of titanium dioxide; creating a vacuum atmosphere or an inert gas atmosphere within the container; and heating the monolith and the metal to cause gas-phase reduction that removes oxygen atom from the titanium dioxide composing the monolith by the metal acting as an oxygen getter, thereby obtaining a macroporous oxygen-deficient titanium oxide monolith having a co-continuous structure of the macropore and a framework that is composed of oxygen-deficient titanium oxide, the macroporous oxygen-deficient titanium oxide monolith having electron conductivity derived from the oxygen-deficient titanium oxide.

The present invention provides a monolithic silicone in the form of an aerogel or a xerogel having flexibility and capable of dissolving molecules of a substance. This silicone monolithic body having continuous through passages is synthesized by copolymerizing starting materials of both a bifunctional alkoxysilane and a trifunctional alkoxysilane or tri- or higher functional alkoxysilanes through a sol-gel reaction for forming a Si&#x2014;O network while causing phase separation.

Disclosed is a method for producing an inorganic porous body having precisely controlled macropores concurrently with mesopores of a narrow pore size distribution. The present invention relates to a process for producing inorganic porous materials, mainly composed of glass or glass-ceramic components. The glass or glass-ceramic components can have interconnected continuous macropores with a median diameter larger than 0.1 &mgr;m, and mesopores in the walls of said macropores, said mesopores having a median diameter between 2 and 100 nm. The process can include dissolving a water-soluble polymer or some other pore forming agent and a precursor for a matrix dissolving agent in a medium for mixing with a metalorganic compound.
