A condensed heterocyclic compound of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein Q is a condensed heterocyclic group having a nitrogen atom in the bridgehead which is unsubstituted or substituted, X is a hydrogen atom or a group attached through C, O, S or N, and Y is an electron attractive group, or its salt which is useful as agricultural chemical.

The present invention provides a method for producing trehalose, which comprises culturing microorganisms capable of producing trehalose, in a culture medium containing validamycin or a derivative thereof.

This invention relates to a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, a halogen or a lower alkyl group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.33 independently are a lower alkoxyl group; and Py is an optionally substituted pyridyl group or a salt thereof. The compound or a salt thereof exerts excellent fungicidal effects against plant disease and is used as fungicide for agricultural use.
