In this state, the pad slide surfaces of the brake rotor are lathed with the reference provided by a wheel pilot end surface. A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus which reduces the weight, size and number of parts and also prevents ingress of rain water or dusts and leakage of differential gear oil has an axle housing supported under a body of a vehicle. A hollow drive shaft is inserted into the axle housing. A wheel bearing is arranged between the drive shaft and an opening of the axle housing and is structured as a unit including a wheel hub and a double row rolling bearing. The wheel bearing includes an inner member with a wheel hub integrally formed with a wheel mounting flange on one end and an axially extending cylindrical portion. At least one inner ring is press-fit onto the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub. The inner ring is formed with at least one of the inner raceway surfaces on its outer circumferential surface. An outer member is arranged around the inner member and formed with double row outer raceway surfaces on its inner circumferential surface opposite to the inner raceway surfaces. Double row rolling elements are arranged between the inner and outer raceway surfaces of the inner member and the outer member. A cage freely rollably holds the rolling elements. Seals seal an annular space between the inner member and the outer member. A cap, having a metal core formed from steel, is press-fit into an end of a central bore of the wheel hub.

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member, double row rolling elements, and seals mounted within annular openings formed between the outer member and the inner member. A metal annulus, mounted on the base portion, is press-formed of steel plate. The metal annulus has a cylindrical fitting portion, a curved portion, a disk shaped portion, and an overhang portion. The outer side seal of the seals has a metal core and a sealing member with side lips and a grease lip. The side lips and the grease lip sliding contact the metal annulus. The encoder has an annular ring configuration with its characteristics alternately and equidistantly varying along its circumferential direction. A seal is arranged at the inboard side of the encoder via the sensor holder. The seal includes a first annular sealing plate and a second annular sealing plate. The first and second annular plates are mounted on the sensor holder and the inner ring, respectively, and opposite toward each other.

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has a substantially cylindrical outer ring formed with double row outer raceway surfaces on its inner circumference and with press fitting surfaces on its outer circumferences of its cylindrical portions. A pair of inner rings is formed with inner raceway surfaces on their outer circumferences. The inner rings cylindrical portions have fitting surfaces on their inner circumferences. The fitting surfaces fit onto a cylindrical portion of a wheel hub. The inner rings are adapted to be arranged so that end faces of the cylindrical portions abut each other. Double row rolling elements are freely rollably arranged between outer and inner raceway surfaces. At least the outer ring of the outer and inner is formed by pressing or rolling from a plate member or a pipe member. The thickness of the cylindrical portions of the outer ring is thinner than that of the outer raceway surfaces. Seals are arranged in annular spaces formed between the inner circumferences of the cylindrical portions of the outer ring and the outer circumferences of the cylindrical portions of the inner rings. The seals are adapted to be press-fit into the inner circumferences of the cylindrical portions of the outer ring. The double row outer raceway surfaces of the outer ring and the inner raceway surfaces of the inner ring are surface hardened.

A bearing assembly is proposed which includes a rotational speed detector including a sensor and a sensor holder made of steel. The sensor is adapted to be snap-fitted in the sensor holder. The sensor holder is subjected to cationic electrocoating to improve its corrosion resistance, thereby preventing the sensor from separating from the sensor holder after long use of the bearing assembly. This improves the reliability of the entire bearing assembly.
