A liquid crystalline composition is disclosed. The composition comprises at least one liquid-crystal compound and at least one fluoroaliphatic group-containing polymer of a formula (1-1). In the formula, i and j each indicate an integer equal to or more than 1; M represents k types of repetitive units each derived from an ethylenic unsaturated monomer (k indicates an integer equal to or more than 1); a, b and c each mean a mass percentage indicating a polymerization ratio; Rand Reach represent a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; Xand Xeach represent an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or &#x2014;N(R)&#x2014;; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; m1 and m2 each indicate an integer of from 1 to 6; and n1 indicates an integer of from 0 to 3.

According to the drying method and apparatus of the present invention, at first, the coated film on one end side of the support is more quickly dried than that on the other end side, because drying air is supplied from one end side of the support. Subsequently, the coated film on the other end side of the support is more quickly dried than that on one end side, because drying air is supplied from the other end side of the support. Accordingly, the method and the apparatus can diminish a difference between drying rates in on one end side and in the other end side of the long support, in the whole drying zone. Thus, the method and the apparatus can uniformly dry the support and inhibit the production of a dry spot.

Method for drying coated film, and apparatus therefor

Anti-reflection film includes a transparent support, at least one optical functional layer overlaid on the support, and a low refractive index layer, overlaid on the optical functional layer, and having a lower refractive index than the optical functional layer. An anti-reflection film producing apparatus to produce this includes a coater for coating a surface of the optical functional layer with liquid for forming the low refractive index layer, to form a coating layer. A dryer promotes drying of the coating layer. A heater hardens the coating layer from the dryer at a first temperature level, and then hardens the coating layer at a second temperature level higher than the first temperature level, to form the low refractive index layer. Preferably, a difference between the first and second temperature levels is 1-50 deg. C. Also, ultraviolet rays are applied to the low refractive index layer after the hardening of the heater.

Apparatus and method for inspecting film defect

An apparatus for checking a film for defects having a pair of polarizers placed on the opposite sides of the film to be checked, an illumination light source placed outside the pair of polarizers, a light receiving device placed outside the pair of polarizers and opposite from the illumination light source, and a correction film having substantially the same birefringent characteristics as a portion of the film to be checked having no optical defects. A direction in which the correction film is to be positioned is previously set according to the birefringent characteristics of the film to be checked. The correction film is placed between one of the pair of polarizers and the film to be checked. A luminance signal of light emits from the illumination light source, transmits through the film to be checked, the correction film and the pair of polarizers and is then obtained by the light receiving device to check the film for optical defects.

Apparatus, system and method for checking film for defects

A process for the preparation of a cellulose acetate film comprises the steps of: cooling a mixture of cellulose acetate and an organic solvent to -100.degree. to -10.degree. C.; warming the cooled mixture to 0.degree. to 50.degree. C. to dissolve the cellulose acetate in the organic solvent; casting the obtained solution on a support; and evaporating the organic solvent to form the cellulose acetate film. The cellulose acetate has an average acetic acid content in the range of 58.0 to 62.5%. The organic solvent is acetone.

Process for the preparation of cellulose acetate film

A cellulose acetate solution has cellulose acetate in a solvent. The cellulose acetate has an average acetic acid content in the range of 58.0 to 62.5%. In the first embodiment of the invention, the solvent is a mixture of acetone and another organic solvent. The organic solvent is an ether having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, a ketone having 4 to 12 carbon atom, an ester having 3 to 12 carbon atoms, or an alcohol having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. In the second embodiment, the solvent is the ether, the ketone or the ester. Processes for the preparation of the solution and a cellulose acetate film are also disclosed.
