A sub panel concealing an airbag is mounted in the instrument panel of a vehicle. The sub panel covering a portion of the instrument panel appears to be part of the instrument panel. The inner surface of the sub panel has cleavage grooves that split open during a vehicle collision allowing the airbag to expand, protecting the passenger. The sub panel and airbag unit are replaceable after the airbag is deployed, restoring the instrument panel functionality. In the preferred embodiment, the sub panel covers a portion of the instrument panel on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Vehicle instrument panel

In an instrument panel 21 of the invention, a foamed layer 23 and a skin 24 are laminated in this sequence on the surface of a resin-made core member 22 which is disposed in front of a main unit of an air bag apparatus, and a tearable portion 26 for inflating an air bag is formed by irradiation of a laser beam from the back face of the resin-made core member 22. The tearable portion 26 elongates from the core member 22 to a part of a back face side of the skin 24.

Instrument panel

An automobile airbag device having a lid in an instrument panel body, where the instrument panel body faces an airbag pop-out area, the lid for airbag expansion is formed into the instrument panel body by a hinge section and a splitting section of thinned thicknesses. There is an opening formed by breaking of the splitting section and swinging of the lid about the hinge section where an airbag which expands from airbag device body can push through around the opening. There is a reinforcement bracket which is proximate to the inner side of the lid.

Automobile airbag device

An air bag cover (21) is provided which covers an air bag device and consists of a core layer (23) made of hard resin and a skin layer (22) made of soft resin. The air bag cover (21) has a lid (21a) cracked and opened by actuation of the air bag device. The lid (21a) has cracked-open portions (26) along which the lid (21a) is cracked by pressure generated when the air bag is inflated and a hinge portion (24) on which the lid (21a) is opened and by which the lid (21a) is held. The hinge portion (24) has hinge holes (22a) through which the soft resin of skin layer (22) flows onto the back surface of the core layer (23). A method of molding the air bag cover (21) takes first and second stages. In the first step, after a pair of molds are clamped, molten hard resin for a core layer (23) is injected into a cavity of one of the molds. The hard resin is cooled and hardened to form the core layer (23). In the second step, after the molds are opened, a core die component (35c) of the mold used in the first step is moved and brought into contact with a cavity die component (35b) of the other mold. Thereafter, molten soft resin for a skin layer (22) is injected into a space between the core layer (23) formed on the core die component (35c) and the cavity die component (35b) in order to form the skin layer (22).

Automotive air bag cover and method of molding same

At least the first chamfered portion 22 for forming the apex portion 8 has a surface roughness (R.sub.p-p) of 0.6 .mu.m or under. This first chamfered portion 22 is formed through grinding with a #2500 or #1500 grinding stone.

Improved magnetic head having smoothed chamfered surface for reducing

A magnetic head is provided with an apex portion having a first and second chamfered portion, both formed in a C core. The first chamfered portion has a first apex angle .alpha. at a position corresponding to a predetermined gap depth. The first chamfered portion also has a predetermined apex length. The second chamfered portion is contiguous to the first chamfered portion and has second apex angle .beta. which is smaller than the first apex angle .alpha.. The first apex angle .alpha. is greater than or equal to 70.degree. and less than 80.degree..

A method of manufacturing a flying magnetic head of composite type using a magnetic thin film layer as a head core. The flying magnetic head comprises a slider, an I core bar bonded via a high-melting-point bonding glass layer to one end face of the slider and a C core bonded via a high-melting-point bonding glass layer serving as a gap spacer to the I core bar. The I core bar and C core have respective magnetic thin film layers, which are aligned to each other and mated with an ABS of the slider. I core bar is formed at a position corresponding to a wiring groove of the C core with a window groove. Such flying magnetic heads having a smooth ABS can be readily and massively manufactured.

A non-magnetic substrate used for a magnetic head comprising a pair of non-magnetic substrates, and a magnetic layer structure sandwiched between the pair of non-magnetic substrates. The magnetic layer structure is comprised, of alternately laminated magnetic layers and intermediate insulating layers. The invention discloses for the substrate material a composition expressed by Zn.sub.x M.sub.y Co.sub.2-x-y O.sub.2, with the proviso that M is Mn or Ni, 0.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.4, 0.4.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1.0, 0.8.ltoreq.x+y.ltoreq.1.0, or Co.sub.x Ni.sub.2-x O.sub.2, with the proviso that 0.2.ltoreq.x .ltoreq.1.8, and having a rock-salt structure.

In a method of manufacturing a flying magnetic head, the following surfaces are mirror-finished: a bonding surface 18a of a core block 18, a surface 18b of the core block 18 which is on the opposite side of the bonding surface 18a, a surface 19a of a core block 19, and a bonding end surface 2a of a slider 2 formed of a non-magnetic material such as ceramics and having a rectangular sectional configuration. Then, high-melting-point bonding glass layers m are deposited on these surfaces by sputtering or the like. Afterwards, the core blocks 18 and 19 and the slider 2 are put together and simultaneously bonded with each other by heating under pressure through the bonding glass layers m, thereby forming a flying magnetic head block.

A magnetic head with a pair of mated core halves, the mating surfaces of the core halves being bonded with a predetermined gap length provided therebetween. The magnetic head has a gap portion where, on each of the mating surfaces of the core halves, a non-magnetic dielectric layer of SiO.sub.2 which is adjacent to the core half, a barrier layer, and a bonding glass layer are successively formed. The glass layers each associated with the corresponding core half are fusion pressure bonded together in such a manner as to form the gap portion.

A magnetic film of Fe-Si-Al alloy comprises a substrate and an Fe-Si-Al alloy film in which argon is entrapped. A thin-film laminated magnetic head comprises a pair of opposed substrates, and alternately laminated Fe-Si-Al alloy films entrapping argon therein and non-magnetic insulating films between the substrates. In the magnetic film and the head the substrates have a thermal expansion coefficient lower than that of the Fe-Si-Al alloy films and the amount of argon entrapped in the alloy films is controlled within the range of about 0.01 to about 0.3 wt. % so that internal stresses in the alloy films are substantially zeroed.

Thin-film laminated magnetic heads of Fe-Si-Al alloy

A method of producing a magnetic film of Fe-Si-Al alloy in which argon is entrapped, by using a DC magnetron sputtering apparatus to apply RF bias to a substrate thereby depositing a Fe-Si-Al alloy film on the substrate. The alloy film produced has a thermal expansion coefficient of 110.times.10.sup.-7 to 170.times.10.sup.-7 .degree. C..sup.-1 and the substrate has a thermal expansion coefficient of 100.times.10.sup.-7 to 135.times.10.sup.-7 .degree. C..sup.-1. The amount of argon entrapped in the alloy film is controlled within the range of 0.01 o 0.3 weight percent so as to substantially zero the internal stresses in the alloy film.
