The invention aims to provide a crosslinked polymer having an excellent liquid absorption capacity and sufficient gel-pulverizability. The invention relates to a N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer including: a structural unit derived from a N-vinyl lactam-based monomer; and a structural unit derived from triallyl cyanurate, the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer containing the structural unit derived from triallyl cyanurate in a ratio of 0.12 to 0.48 mol % to 100 mol % of all structural units.

N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer, cosmetic, absorbent agent for ink, and absorbent composite

The invention aims to provide a crosslinked polymer having excellent moisture retention properties, an excellent ethanol absorption capacity, excellent adhesiveness to the skin when applied to the skin as a cosmetic, and a high concentration of an effective component. The invention relates to a N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer including: a structural unit derived from a N-vinyl lactam; and a structural unit derived from a crosslinking agent, the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer having an ethanol absorption capacity of 3 to 40 g per 1 g of the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer, the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer containing a particle having an aspect ratio determined by the following method of 1.15 to 10 in a proportion of 10% to 100% (by number) of the total number of the N-vinyl lactam-based crosslinked polymer and having a proportion of an extractable of 35 mass % or less in 100 mass % of the entire polymer, the method being 'method of measuring aspect ratio' in which the aspect ratio is determined as a value obtained by measuring the major and minor axes of a primary particle of the N-vinyl lactam-based cross-linked polymer with an optical or electron microscope and dividing the major axis by the minor axis.

The present invention provides an N-vinyl lactam polymer that is less likely to be colored (yellowing) even at high temperatures to maintain its color tone. The present invention provides an N-vinyl lactam polymer comprising a structural unit derived from an N-vinyl lactam monomer, the N-vinyl lactam polymer including a structural unit that has at least one of a hypophosphorous group and a group of hypophosphorous acid metal salt at a main chain terminal.

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including: a positive electrode having a positive electrode material mixture containing a composite lithium oxide; a negative electrode; a polyolefin separator; a non-aqueous electrolyte; and a heat-resistant insulating layer interposed between the positive and negative electrodes. The positive electrode material mixture has an estimated heat generation rate at 200&#xb0; C. of not greater than 50 W/kg. The positive electrode and the negative electrode are wound together with the separator and the heat-resistant insulating layer interposed therebetween.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

In a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a separator in which its dynamic hardness DH obtained when the load to an indenter reaches 12 kgf/cmis 1000 or more is used. This separator includes at least one porous layer X including a polyolefin, and at least one porous layer Y including a heat resistant resin. The porosity of the porous layer X is 35% or more and 65% or less. In a pore size distribution of the porous layer X measured with a mercury porosimeter, a ratio of pores having a pore size of 0.02 &#x3bc;m or more and 0.2 &#x3bc;m or less is 40 vol % or more relative to a total pore volume. The thermal deformation temperature of the heat resistant resin is 160&#xb0; C. or more.

Separator and non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

An object of the present invention is to provide a method for measuring information relating to the impedance characteristics of a powder with high accuracy. To achieve such an object, the method for measuring powder properties according to the present invention includes a step in which the impedance characteristics of a powder are obtained by an alternating current impedance method, using a function setting a pressure applied to the powder or a density of the powder as a variable. From the obtained impedance characteristics, information relating to at least one of the components can be extracted, the components being a first component that is dependent on the variable, and a second component that is not dependent on the variable.

Method and device for measuring powder properties

The present invention is a powder of a vinylpyrrolidone polymer having a K value of smaller than 50, characterized in that a content of particles having a particle diameter of 106 &#x3bc;m or smaller is 10% by mass or less and a content of particles having a particle diameter of greater than 1,000 &#x3bc;m is 5% by mass or lower. A process for production of a powder of a vinylpyrrolidone polymer according to the present invention is characterized in that a vinylpyrrolidone polymer having a K value of smaller than 50 is formed into a solution having a concentration from 30% to 70% by mass, and the solution is dried by using a hot surface adhesion-type dryer, followed by pulverization so that a content of particles having a particle diameter of 106 &#x3bc;m or smaller is 10% by mass or lower and a content of particles having a particle diameter of greater than 1,000 &#x3bc;m is 5% by mass or lower. Thus, there is provided a powder of a vinylpyrrolidone polymer, which has excellent solubility in spite of having a low K value determined by a Fikentscher method and can be made into solution with favorable handleability without dust rising, and a process for production of the same.

Powder of a vinylpyrrolidone polymer and a process for production thereof

A polyvinylpyrrolidone powder composition including polyvinylpyrrolidone with a K value of not lower than 50 and not higher than 120, wherein a content of insoluble substances remaining on a membrane filter having a pore size of 1.2 &#x3bc;m when a 2 wt % aqueous solution of the composition is filtered with the filter is not higher than 70 ppm; a polyvinylpyrrolidone powder composition including polyvinylpyrrolidone with a K value of not lower than 50 and not higher than 120, wherein a K value lowering ratio to be observed when the composition is heated at 80&#xb0; C. in air for 14 days is not higher than 12%; and a polyvinylpyrrolidone powder composition including polyvinylpyrrolidone with a K value of not lower than 50 and not higher than 120, wherein a content of insoluble substances remaining on a membrane filter having a pore size of 1.2 &#x3bc;m when a 2 wt % aqueous solution of the composition is filtered with the filter is not higher than 70 ppm, and a K value lowering ratio to be observed when the composition is heated at 80&#xb0; C. in air for 14 days is not higher than 12%.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone powder compositions

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including: a positive electrode having a positive electrode material mixture containing a composite lithium oxide; a negative electrode; a polyolefin separator; a non-aqueous electrolyte; and a heat-resistant insulating layer interposed between the positive and negative electrodes. The positive electrode active material mixture has an estimated heat generation rate at 200&#xb0; C. of not greater than 50 W/kg. The estimated heat generation rate is determined by obtaining a relation between absolute temperature T and heat generation rate V of the positive electrode material mixture using an accelerating rate calorimeter; plotting a relation between the inverse of absolute temperature T and the logarithm of heat generation rate V according to the Arrhenius law; obtaining a straight line fitted to the plotted points in a heat generation temperature range of T&#x3c;200&#xb0; C.; and extrapolating the straight line to the temperature of 200&#xb0; C.

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material, a positive electrode including a positive electrode active material, and a non-aqueous electrolyte; the positive electrode active material is LiNiMnCoO, wherein y and z satisfy 0&#x3c;y&#x2266;0.5, 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.5, and 0&#x3c;y+z&#x2266;0.75; and an upper limit voltage for charging the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is 4.25 to 4.70 V. It is possible to obtain a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary with high capacity, high reliability, and long life by properly setting the composition of a composite oxide of lithium which is a positive electrode active material and the charging conditions of the battery using this composite oxide of lithium as a positive electrode active material as described above.

Non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery and method for charging the same

A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including: an electrode group in which a positive electrode plate and a negative electrode plate are spirally wound with a separator interposed therebetween; and a non-aqueous electrolyte, wherein the positive electrode plate has at least one exposed portion of the positive electrode current collector, the negative electrode plate has at least one exposed portion of the negative electrode current collector, and a metal that dissolves into the non-aqueous electrolyte when the battery voltage exceeds a predetermined level is provided on a surface of the exposed portion of positive electrode current collector facing the exposed portion of negative electrode current collector. This battery is extremely safe because it prevents overcharge and internal short-circuit at an area where the positive and negative electrode active materials and the non-aqueous electrolyte exist together.

To present a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using iron compound which is inexpensive and abundant in resource, as the active material for the positive electrode. An iron compound with particle size of 1 to 300 nm or less, being composed of substantially spherical primary particles of pore-free matter, is used as the active material for a positive electrode, which is used together with a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte for composing the battery. By forming the primary particles for composing particles of the iron compound as a pore-free matter, being controlled in a range of 1 to 300 nm, nano effects are brought about, and it is also effective to suppress excessive increase of surface area which may lead to promotion of decomposition of electrolyte, and an excellent discharge capacity is realized stably for a long period.

Nonaqueous electrolyte battery

A negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high discharge capacity and a good cycle life is made from alloy particles having an average particle diameter of 0.1-50 &#x3bc;m and including Si phase grainsand a phase of a solid solution or an intermetallic compound of Si and other element selected from Group 2A elements, transition elements, Group 3B elements, and Group 4B elements from the long form periodic table (for example, an NiSiphaseand an [NiSi+NiSi] phase) at least partially enveloping the Si phase grains. 5-99 wt % of this material is Si phase grains. The alloy particles can be manufactured by rapid solidification (such as atomization or roller quenching) of a melt including Si and the other element, or by adhering the other element to Si powder by electroless plating or mechanical alloying and then performing heat treatment. Even if rapid solidification is carried out, a negative electrode material having a good discharge capacity and cycle life is obtained without heat treatment.

Process for manufacture of negative electrode material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery

A negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a high discharge capacity and a good cycle life is made from alloy particles having an average particle diameter of 0.1-50 &mgr;m and including Si phase grains 40 and a phase of a solid solution or an intermetallic compound of Si and other element selected from Group 2A elements, transition elements, Group 3B elements, and Group 4B elements from the long form periodic table (for example, an NiSi phase 42 and an &lsqb;NiSi &plus;NiSi&rsqb; phase 41) at least partially enveloping the Si phase grains. 5-99 wt % of this material is Si phase grains.
