A touch sensor includes a sensor electrode group; and a touch integrated circuit coupled to the sensor electrode group for executing touch detection and configured to generate frame data indicative of a detection level of each of two-dimensional positions in the sensor electrode group. The touch integrated circuit is connected to an external processor different from the touch integrated circuit via a first bus. The touch integrated circuit supplies the frame data to the external processor via the first bus. The external processor feeds determination data resulting from performing predetermined processing on the frame data back to the touch integrated circuit. The touch integrated circuit performs an operation based on the determination data.

An interface device includes an on-panel pad and a sensor controller. The interface device is used to perform an input to an electronic device in response to an operation by a user on a capacitive touch panel display of the electronic device. The on-panel pad causes sensor electrodes included in the touch panel display to generate a two-dimensional pattern of capacitance while the on-panel pad is on the touch panel display. When the two-dimensional pattern generated while the on-panel pad is on the touch panel display has been detected, the sensor controller generates or outputs data including operation information in response to a change in capacitance in a region that is associated with the two-dimensional pattern and that receives an operation of the on-panel pad, the operation information indicating an operation state of the on-panel pad.

A touch detection method is performed by a controller of a touch sensor of a capacitive type including sensor electrodes. The touch detection method includes acquiring detection values at crossing positions of the sensor electrodes, acquiring capacitance values for the crossing positions, calculating difference values for the crossing positions, each of the detection values being obtained by subtracting the moving average for one of the crossing positions from one of the difference values for the one of the crossing positions, acquiring a maximum value among the detection values at the crossing positions, determining a first threshold value by subtracting a subtraction value, which is a fixed value or a value that decreases as the maximum value increases, from the maximum value, and deriving a position of the indicator based on the detection values at the crossing positions with reference to the first threshold value.

Touch detection method, touch detection apparatus, and touch sensor controller

A method performed by a system is provided, wherein the system includes a touch IC executing touch detection and an external processor, which is different from the touch IC and which may include a touch IC support firmware. The system includes a sensor electrode group connected to the touch IC; and a first bus connecting the touch IC with the external processor. The touch IC generates frame data indicative of a detection level of each of two-dimensional positions in the sensor electrode group, and supplies the frame data to the external processor via the first bus. The external processor feeds determination data resulting from performing predetermined processing on the frame data back to the touch IC, and the touch IC performs an operation based on the determination data. Thus, the touch IC can utilize the processing results of the external processor.

Method performed by system including touch IC and external processor

A touch detection method is performed by a controller of a touch sensor of a capacitive type including sensor electrodes. The touch detection method includes acquiring detection values at crossing positions of the sensor electrodes, each detection value corresponding to a capacitance between an indicator and the touch sensor at one of the crossing positions, acquiring a maximum value among the detection values at the crossing positions, determining a first threshold value by subtracting a subtraction value, which is a fixed value or a value that decreases as the maximum value increases, from the maximum value, and deriving a position of the indicator based on the detection values at the crossing positions with reference to the first threshold value.
