A coolant composition includes: a viscosity improving agent; at least one alkali metal compound selected from the group consisting of alkali metal salts and alkali metal hydroxides; and a base composed of water and/or at least one alcohol selected from the group consisting of a monohydric alcohol, a dihydric alcohol, a trihydric alcohol, and a glycol monoalkyl ether, wherein the viscosity improving agent is a compound represented by a formula of RO&#x2014;(RO)&#x2014;SOM, where Rrepresents a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group having 16 to 24 carbon atoms, Rrepresents an ethylene group or a propylene group, m represents an average addition molar number of RO and a number from 0.5 to 10, and M represents a cation or a hydrogen atom, and a kinetic viscosity of the coolant composition is 8.5 mm/sec or higher at 25&#xb0; C. and is 2.0 mm/sec or lower at 100&#xb0; C.

There are provided a stock solution composition for fuel cell vehicle coolant used by dilution with a diluent comprising water and a method for producing the same, and further a fuel cell vehicle coolant composition having improved storage stability and a method for producing the same. The present invention relates to a method for producing a stock solution composition for fuel cell vehicle coolant, wherein the stock solution composition comprises at least one ethylene glycol compound selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, and triethylene glycol, and is used by dilution with a diluent comprising water, and the method comprises the following steps: (a) a step of selecting as a raw material an ethylene glycol compound having an ethylene glycol monoformate content of 60 ppm or less; or (b) a step of selecting as a raw material an ethylene glycol compound, wherein a 50% by mass aqueous solution of the ethylene glycol compound has a conductivity of 4.5 &#x3bc;S/cm or less after heating.

This invention provides a coolant composition for an internal combustion engine that can improve the energy efficiency of an internal combustion engine and a method for operating an internal combustion engine using such coolant composition. The coolant composition for an internal combustion engine of the invention has kinematic viscosity of 8.5 to 3,000 mm/sec at 25&#xb0; C. and 0.3 to 1.3 mm/sec at 100&#xb0; C. The method for operating an internal combustion engine of the invention is carried out with the use of such composition.
