A plasma display device, which gradually increases the current to the panel capacitors is disclosed. The display uses an inductor to reduce the current spike which would otherwise occur and create large electromagnetic interference.

Plasma display and driving method thereof

A driving waveform is applied to a scan electrode while a sustain electrode is biased at a ground voltage such that a driving board for driving the sustain electrode may not be needed. In addition, when grouping a plurality of scan electrodes into a plurality of groups and representing grayscale values using a frame-subfield method, a sustain discharge may be stably generated during a sustain period by reducing a time gap between address and sustain periods. When a sustain pulse is applied during a sustain period between two adjacent address periods, the last voltage is set to be a low level voltage.

A method for driving a plasma display panel having a plurality of first electrodes, a plurality of second electrodes, and a plurality of third electrodes provided in a direction crossing the first and second electrodes while one frame is divided into a plurality of subfields, the plurality of first electrodes being divided into a plurality of groups each including a first group and a second group, and the plurality of second electrodes being biased at a first voltage during a reset period, an address period, and a sustain period. During the address period, a second voltage is selectively applied to a plurality of first electrodes included in the first group. Waveforms for performing a reset operation, an address operation, and a sustain operation are applied to a scan electrode while a sustain electrode is biased with a predetermined voltage, and it is controlled such that the absolute value of a positive voltage of sustain voltage pulses applied to the scan electrode in the sustain period may be greater than the absolute value of a negative voltage thereof. Further, an address electrode is floated when a waveform having a sustain discharge function is applied to the scan electrode, and the voltage at the address electrode is controlled to be increased and decreased according to the voltage at the scan electrode.

Plasma display panel and driving method thereof

A driving method of a plasma display panel including a discharge space defined by a plurality of scan electrodes, a plurality of sustain electrodes and a plurality of address electrodes for preventing or reducing a misfiring address discharge. In the driving method, a low scan pulse voltage, which is lower than a low scan pulse voltage applied to a previously addressed scan electrode, is applied to a scan electrode which is scanned later in an address period. A low scan pulse voltage applied in an address period of a subfield having a sub-reset period is established to be lower than a low scan pulse voltage applied in an address period of a subfield having a main reset period.

According to an exemplary driving method of a plasma display panel of the present invention, waveforms having a reset function, an address function, and a sustain discharge function are applied to a scan electrode while sustain electrodes are biased at a ground voltage. A board for driving the sustain electrodes and a switch for supplying a ground voltage is eliminated and accordingly manufacturing cost of driving boards is reduced. Various circuits for generating the desirable waveforms and simplifications that do not compromise the effectiveness of the circuits are also presented.

Method and circuit for driving a plasma display panel and a plasma display device

A plasma display apparatus minimizing the occupying area of the driving boards in the chassis base by using an integrated driving board capable of driving scan electrodes sustain electrodes. A plasma display panel includes: a plurality of first electrodes (sustain electrodes or X electrodes), a plurality of second electrodes (scan electrodes or Y electrodes), a plurality of third electrodes (address electrodes) extending in a direction crossing the plurality of the first and the second electrodes, and a chassis base to which the plasma display panel is fixed. Driving boards are attached on a second side of the chassis base, the driving boards generating a driving voltage and applying the driving voltage to the electrodes. The first electrodes are grounded to the chassis base.

Plasma display apparatus

An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel that includes first and second signal lines for supplying first and second voltages, respectively, and first and second inductors coupled to one terminal of a panel capacitor. A first current path is formed from the panel capacitor to the second signal line via the second inductor to drop the voltage of the panel capacitor from the first voltage to the second voltage. A second current path is formed to recover the current flowing to the second inductor towards the first signal line, while the voltage of the panel capacitor is sustained at the second voltage. A third current path is formed from the first signal line to the panel capacitor via the first inductor while the current flowing to the second inductor is recovered, to raise the voltage of the panel capacitor from the second voltage to the first voltage. A fourth current is also formed to recover the current flowing to the first inductor towards the first signal line, while the voltage of the panel capacitor is sustained at the first voltage.
