A temperature sensorincludes: a thermosensitive elementcomposed of a low-thermal expansion ceramics having a coefficient of linear expansion of 3&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. to 5&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. and of which electrical characteristics change depending on temperature; a pair of electrode filmsprovided on the surfaces of the thermosensitive element; and a pair of lead wires having a coefficient of linear expansion of 15&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. or less and bonded to the electrode films. When the coefficients of linear expansion of the thermosensitive element, the electrode film, and the lead wireare respectively T(/&#xb0; C.), T(/&#xb0; C.), and T(/&#xb0; C.), the temperature sensorsatisfies a relationship T&#x2266;T&#x2266;T.

Temperature sensor including thermosensitive element

A paired temperature sensor includes two temperature sensors having electrical characteristics substantially equivalent at the same temperature range, each of the temperature sensor having a thermosensitive element therein that changes its electrical characteristics according to temperature, and a pair of lead wires, and a single connectorto which the two temperature sensors are connected via the lead wires. The two temperature sensors have electrical characteristics substantially equivalent at the same temperature range. The connector has positioning portions for allowing the connector to be connected in a predetermined orientation relative to a counterpart connector. There is provided at least one distinguishing difference between the two temperature sensors.

Paired temperature sensor and method of manufacturing the same

A temperature sensing element includes a thermistor composed of Si-base ceramics and a pair of metal electrodes bonded onto the surfaces of the thermistor. The metal electrodes contain Cr and a metal element &#x3b1; having a Si diffusion coefficient higher than that of Cr. A diffusion layer is formed in a bonding interface between the thermistor and each metal electrode, the diffusion layer including a silicide of the metal element &#x3b1; in a crystal grain boundary of the Si-base ceramics. A temperature sensor including the diffusion layers is provided. Owing to the diffusion layers, the temperature sensor ensures heat resistance and bonding reliability and enables temperature detection with high accuracy in a temperature range, in particular, of from &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. to 1050&#xb0; C.

This invention provides a production method for a ceramic structure capable of making a extrusion rate coefficient, in extruding of a ceramic structure, greater than that of prior art technologies. A second display panel having a lower luminance is combined with a first display panel having a higher luminance, forming a combined display panel. The entire surface of the combined display panel is covered with a dimming filter for ornamental purpose. Transparency of the dimming filter is enhanced in a wave-length region of the light emitted from the second panel to alleviate a brightness imbalance between the first and second panels. The transparency is enhanced also in another wave-length region corresponding to light complementary to the light emitted from the second panel, so that a color shift of the display of the first panel is avoided. Preferably, an electroluminescent display panel which emits light having a sharp peak in a specific wave-length region is used as the second panel.

Combined display panel

According to this liquid crystal cell, a vacuum to be established between two electrode substrates as a result of the volume shrinkage of a liquid crystal having a high viscosity at the room temperature can be damped by communicating between two of a plurality of filling portions formed between two electrode substrates by a plurality of barrier walls through the intervening barrier walls. An anti-ferroelectric liquid crystal (AFLC) is used as the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal cell has a lower electrode substrate and an upper electrode substrate, between which a smectic liquid crystal is disposed together with a plurality of barrier walls on the inner side of a band seal. Each barrier wall has through holes to communicate between the two filling portions located on the two sides of the barrier walls.

A thin-film EL display panel which has excellent packageability, high reliability and stable performance characteristics, and which can prevent nonuniformity of brightness and color from occurring and a fabrication method thereof are provided. In the above thin-film EL display panel, two thin-film EL elements,and,formed by sequentially laminating first electrodes,and,, first insulating layers, luminescent layers, second insulating layers and second electrodes,and,respectively on glass substrates,and,are laminated into position and connecting terminal portions,and,for connecting the first electrodes,and,and second electrodes,and,are formed on the edge portions of the substrates,and,of the thin-film EL elements,and,. connecting pad portions,and,which correspond respectively to the connecting terminal portions,and,of the thin-film EL element,are provided on the edge portions on the substrate of the thin-film EL element,, the connecting pad portions are connected to the connecting terminal portions of the other thin-film EL element via conductive coupling sections,and the connecting pad portions and the connecting terminal portions to which lead wires are connected are provided on the edge portion of one substrate at a position where both substrates will not be laminated.

Thin-film El display panel having uniform display characteristics

A transparent display panel such as an electroluminescent panel is overlapped on a part of a conventional instrument panel for use in an automobile. The overlapped display panel displays additional information such as navigation maps when required and is turned off under a normal driving condition. When the overlapped transparent display panel is turned off, the conventional instrument panel displays information such as a vehicle speed, an engine speed and so forth. In this situation, overall luminance on the combined display panel is made uniform throughout a whole surface including the area where the transparent display panel is overlapped. To realize the uniformity of luminance, brightness of back lamps for illuminating the instrument panel is adjusted or a filter having an adequate transparency is used. The combined display panel may be also made by combining a non-transparent display panel with a conventional instrument panel. A filter may be used in this case to attain an overall uniform luminance on the combined display panel.

Two electroluminescent substrates, each emitting light having different color, are laminated and bonded together with adhesive layer interposed therebetween. An insulation film such as an epoxy film is placed between two substrates and deformed into an adhesive layer under pressure and heat. The adhesive layer serves as a bonding material and a humidity-protection layer as well. Electrical connection between electrodes of the electroluminescent substrates and outside driving circuits is made at the same time two substrates are bonded by the adhesive layer by bonding wiring sheets together. To further improve the humidity-protection ability of the adhesive layer, the surface of the electroluminescent substrates may be covered by resin which is hardened by radiating ultraviolet light at the same time the insulation film is deformed into the adhesive layer. Thus, the electroluminescent display panel having two substrates can be manufactured in a simple and inexpensive manufacturing process.

Manufacturing method of electroluminescent display panel

A transparent electroluminescent display panel overlaps at least a part of a conventional instrument panel, and forms a combined display panel assembly. Overlapping front and back panel displays are selectively displayed. The front electroluminescent panel displays additional information such as navigation maps, and is turned off when such additional information is not required while the back panel is turned on. The present invention eliminates undesirable reflected images of the back panel vaguely shown on the front panel when the front panel is on and the back panel is off. A light attenuator, eliminates the reflected images. It decreases the intensity of light emitted from the front panel to the back panel, and is disposed between the back and the front panels or built into the electroluminescent panel, so that the reflected images are eliminated.

An electroluminescent display panel which is able to selectively display different colors by changing a voltage level imposed thereon is made in a simple structure. A first luminescent layer (4) emitting green light, for example, and a second luminescent layer (5) emitting orange light, for example, are directly laminated on each other without interposing an intermediate electrode therebetween. The second luminescent layer covers only a part of the first luminescent layer to form a single layer portion and a double layer portion. The single layer portion emits green light at a low voltage level, while the double layer portion emits lemon light having a higher luminance at a high voltage level. The display may be made in a form of a matrix or a certain pattern. The display panel may be used as an instrument panel for an automobile. The green light display is used at night time, while the lemon light display with a high luminance is used at day time to cope with sun light.

Multi-color electroluminescent display panel

A transparent display panel such as an electroluminescent panel is overlapped on a part of a conventional instrument panel for use in an automobile. The overlapped display panel displays additional information such as navigation maps when required and is turned off under a normal driving condition. When the overlapped transparent display panel is turned off, the conventional instrument panel displays information such as a vehicle speed, an engine speed so and so forth. In this situation, overall luminance on the combined display panel is made uniform throughout a whole surface including the area where the transparent display panel is overlapped. To realize the uniformity of luminance, brightness of back lamps for illuminating the instrument panel is adjusted or a filter having an adequate transparency is used. The combined display panel may be also made by combining a non-transparent display panel with a conventional instrument panel. A filter may be used in this case to attain an overall uniform luminance on the combined display panel.

In an electroluminescent element in which a first electrode, a first insulating layer, a luminescent layer, a second insulating layer and a second electrode are sequentially laminated on a substrate, the luminescent layer has a first and second luminescent portions which are located apart from each other. A color filter is provided above one of the first and second luminescent portions. The second electrode includes a first part electrode for activating the first luminescent portion and a second part electrode for activating the second luminescent portion. The color filter is formed so that a portion extending from a bottom face of the color filter is inserted into a gap between the first and second luminescent portions to surround an upper face and side faces of the one of the first and second luminescent portions.

Electroluminescent display element and manufacturing method for

A thin-film electroluminescent device includes dielectric layers having improved dielectric characteristics. The device is fabricated by forming a first transparent electrode layer of ITO, a first dielectric layer, a luminescent layer, a second dielectric layer, and a second transparent electrode layer of ITO in this order on an insulating substrate. Each of the two dielectric layers is a film constituted by TaSnON. That is, the film includes tantalum, tin, oxygen, and nitrogen.

Dielectric thin film and thin-film EL device using same

In an electroluminescent device comprising an insulating substrate having consecutively thereon a first electrode, a first insulating layer, a luminescent layer composed of two types or more luminescent portions differing in luminescent color which are provided in a flat panel arrangement to give a single-layered luminescent layer, a second insulating layer and a second electrode, a first dielectric film is disposed between the luminescent portions to provide an isolation layer for isolating the luminescent portions, and a second dielectric film for adjusting the luminescence threshold voltage is disposed on the light outcoupling side or on the side opposite thereto of one of said luminescent portions. Herein, the first and second dielectric films provided for isolating the luminescent portions and for adjusting the luminescence threshold voltage, respectively, are made of the same material and have a refractive index lower than that of both luminescent portions.
