[Object] To provide a digital broadcast receiver capable of performing a channel scan in a relatively short time. [Means for Solution] The digital broadcast receiver is designed for installation in an automobile for example, and identifies a current location using a GPS function. The receiver has a channel list per region containing physical channel information of broadcast stations which potentially exist in each region, and performs a channel scan based on broadcast data obtained from receiving means for physical channels listed on the channel list in a region identified.

Digital broadcast receiver

A decoder device is provided which is able to output audio and video in sync without a counter synchronized with a clock reference value. The decoder device retrieves PES and PCR from TS, and decides the timing of an audio output section and a video output section, referring to PTS appended to the PES. A local counter output section counts in a predetermined count-up cycle without an adjustment control on the PCR. A PCR & local-counter list management section generates a table paring up a counter value, when the PCR is received, with the PCR. The audio & video output sections calculate a latency time of an access unit, using both a first difference, which is between a counter value, when PTS is referred to, and the counter value in the table, and of a second difference, which is between PTS of PES and the PCR in the table.

Decoder device

Broadcasting is received in a desk peripheral, to store coded video data in a memory card. A portable viewing apparatus decodes the coded video data stored in the memory card, to display video on a liquid crystal display panel. Channel selection information for receiving the broadcasting in the desk peripheral is fed from the memory card. The portable viewing apparatus stores the channel selection information in the memory card by user entry. The portable viewing apparatus is supplied with charging power from the desk peripheral.

Based on handwriting coordinate data input by a pen at an arbitrary position on a screen, a handwriting display portion displays a handwriting at the writing position. A recognition portion recognizes a written character or an editing symbol. A handwriting erase portion erases the handwriting, and returns the screen to a state before writing. A recognition result output portion supplies the recognition result to an application program having a keyboard focus in the same form as that of keyboard input. As a result, a character or the like can be directly written at an arbitrary position on a window displayed by the application program or on the screen, and input or editing can be carried out.

On a liquid crystal display panel of the handwritten character input system, a data input frame is displayed, and in the data input frame, a plurality of character writing frames are displayed. Each of the character writing frames defines an area to which a handwritten character can be input. In a frame number changing mode, when the size of the data input frame is changed, the number of character writing frames is changed in accordance with the change size. In a frame size changing mode, when the size of the data input frame is changed, the size of the character writing frame is changed in accordance with the changed size. Further, when the size of the character writing frame is changed, the character font to be displayed is also changed in accordance with the changed size.
