A power supply device has end plates disposed at both ends of a battery block in which a plurality of battery cells and separator are stacked and connected by a binding bar. Separator includes heat insulating sheet including a fiber sheet and silica aerogel, and rubber-like elastic sheets stacked on a surface of heat insulating sheet. Furthermore, separator is provided with stacked region where rubber-like elastic sheets are stacked and non-stacked region where rubber-like elastic sheets are not stacked.

Battery module includes battery stack having a plurality of batteries stacked, each battery having a top surface provided with an output terminal, restraining member that has flat portion extending along side surfaces of the plurality of batteries in stacking direction of batteries and restrains the plurality of batteries, and side separator that has first portion interposed between each battery and flat portion and insulates each battery from flat portion. Insulating member has groove extending in a stacking direction of battery stack on a surface facing battery stack.

A power supply device according to an aspect of the present invention includes a plurality of battery cells having a flat right-angled parallelepiped shape and a plurality of separators insulating adjacent ones of the plurality of battery cells. Each of the plurality of separators includes heat insulating sheet arranged between adjacent one of the plurality of battery cells and an adjacent cell adjacent to the one of the plurality of battery cells among the plurality of battery cells, and insulating molded member holding heat insulating sheet. Insulating molded member includes lower wall covering lower surfaces of one of the plurality of battery cells and an adjacent cell adjacent to the one of the plurality of battery cells among the plurality of battery cells, and holder holding insulating sheet with a gap disposed between lower wall and insulating sheet.

Separator for insulating adjacent battery cells and power supply device

To achieve both formability and heat insulating properties, separator according to an aspect of the present invention insulates adjacent battery cells. Separator includes heat insulation sheet including a fiber material and a heat insulation material including higher heat insulating properties than the fiber material, and formed member including higher shape stability than the heat insulation sheet. This enables shape of heat insulation sheet including high flexibility to be maintained using formed member formed into a predetermined shape.

There is provided a battery system including parallel-connected bus bars each connecting the plurality of prismatic battery cells in parallel, and a safety mechanism configured to be capable of interrupting a current path of prismatic battery cells connected in parallel by the parallel-connected bus bars, where the sealing plate of one of the prismatic battery cells convexly deforms due to a rise in an internal pressure of this prismatic battery cell when an abnormality occurs, the sealing plate that has convexly deformed comes into contact with the parallel-connected bus bars to form external short circuitry between the electrode terminals that are positive and negative of one prismatic battery cell connected in parallel to the prismatic battery cell with the abnormality, and external short circuitry activates the safety mechanism that interrupts a current flowing into the prismatic battery cell with the abnormality.

Method of interrupting inflow current in battery system

A short circuit current interruption method of a battery system including: stacking a plurality of prismatic battery cells and connecting the plurality of prismatic battery cells with a parallel connection bus bar in parallel to form a battery block, wherein a sealing plate of the prismatic battery cell is a plate material having flexibility that deforms when an internal pressure rises due to an internal short circuit, and when a rise in the internal pressure due to the internal short circuit of the prismatic battery cell causes deformation, the deformation of the sealing plate is detected, and when an amount of deformation exceeds a setting value, the short circuit current of the battery connected in parallel with the internally short circuited battery is interrupted.
