In a data transfer system, a transmission terminal is provided with a transmission unit and a divisional transmission unit. A server station is provided with mailboxes, a transmission/reception management unit, a divisional reception unit and a divisional transmission unit. A reception terminal is provided with a reception,/reconstruction unit and a divisional reception unit. In the transmission of video mail from the transmission unit (or from the transmission/reception management unit) to the transmission/reception management unit (or to the reception/reconstruction unit), audio and a frame (still picture) representative of a motion picture, among data contained in the video mail, are first sent by an ordinary method. Video data in the video mail are thereafter transmitted from the divisional transmission unit to the divisional reception unit by a plurality of separate operations. Such a construction can realize data transfer of the video mail which relieves traffic in multimedia data transmission and also copes with the urgency of the mail while making the best use of an existing network.

Video mail system capable of transferring large quantities of data

A data transfer system for data transfer between a plurality of information processors connected to a communication line comprises at least one specified sending information processor and one specified receiving information processor. The sending information processor determines the block size in which original data to be sent to the receiving information processor is to be divided and the transfer time interval at which data blocks are to be transferred, divides the original data to be sent into data blocks of the determined block size, and sends the data blocks to the receiving information processor at the determined transfer time interval. The receiving information processor receives and reconstructs the data blocks sent thereto to obtain the original data.

When a user of a data base desires to fetch necessary information from the data base, display the fetched information on a display unit and save a part of the data displayed on the screen of the display unit, partial data on the display screen is extracted on the basis of two kinds of tables, a character string table and a range table. The character string table is for defining a character string used as a key to search for the data on the display screen. When a character string is found on the display screen, the range table is applied to determine a data region to be extracted inclusive of this character string. The character string used as a key to search and the extracting data region which are defined in advance on the respective tables simplify the operation by the user.

Method and apparatus for system for selectively extracting display data

In a screen display control of a terminal effecting screen display through communications with a host computer via a communication line, there are provided on the terminal side a file in which screen data to be frequently used is subjected to a download or is loaded and a reference table to which a systematic correspondence list associated with display screen data, screen selection data, and next screen data is registered. When screen data being displayed on a display of the terminal is already registered as display screen data to the reference table, if screen select data is inputted, the next screen data registered in association with the corresponding display screen data and the input select data is retrieved from the reference table so that the next screen data is extracted from the screen data file so as to be displayed on the display. When the screen data being displayed is missing in the reference table, in response to an input of the next screen select data, the input data or information associated therewith is transmitted to the host computer so as to request for the next screen data or information specifying the next screen data.
