A plunging type constant velocity universal joint includes outer and inner joint members that transmit torque therebetween through intermediation of a ball while allowing angular displacement. The outer joint member is configured to receive an internal component comprising the ball and the inner joint member so that the internal component is slidable in an axial direction. The universal joint also includes a stopper mechanism that has an annular groove, and is configured to restrict axial displacement of the internal component by allowing the ball to interfere with a circlip fitted to the annular groove. The annular groove has a conical surface, which is inclined with respect to an axial direction so that the conical surface and an axial tangent line at a contact point between the ball and the circlip form a wedge angle opened from an opening end portion of the outer joint member toward a far side.

Constant velocity joint

A constant velocity universal joint has an outer joint member having eight curved track grooves axially extending along an inner circumferential surface, an inner joint member having eight curved track grooves axially extending along an outer circumferential surface, eight balls respectively arranged in eight ball tracks provided as pairs of the track grooves of the outer and inner joint members. The center of each track groove of the outer joint member is axially displaced a predetermined distance from the spherical center of the inner circumferential surface. The center of each track groove of the inner joint member is axially displaced the same distance from the spherical center of the outer circumferential surface in the direction opposite to that of the outer joint member. A PCD gap in the ball track is in the range of 5 &#x3bc;m to 50 &#x3bc;m.

Constant velocity universal joint

A reliable brake rotor and wheel bearing assembly are proposed which make unnecessary adjustment of runout of brake rotor at the customer's factory. For runout of each of the mounting surface and back of the brake rotor itself, and runout of the side of the wheel mounting flange of the inner member to which is mounted the brake rotor, the maximum difference between the peaks of crests and troughs in each period of surface runout is restricted within a standard value, and the brake rotor is mounted to the wheel mounting flange, thereby eliminating the necessity of mounting of the brake rotor and adjustment of runout after mounting at the customer's factory to provide a reliable automotive wheel bearing assembly.

Brake rotor and wheel bearing assembly having maximum acceptable runout variation

A wheel bearing assembly has a disk rotor for a brake integrally formed with a wheel-mounting flange of an inner member. Raceways opposite double-row raceways of the outer member are arranged on separate ring members pressed onto a tubular portion of the inner member. Thus, it is unnecessary to mount a brake rotor to the wheel bearing assembly, to reduce the number of parts, and to use different materials for the inner member and the inner ring members. For example, an FC-family cast iron, which is superior in seizure resistance, can be used for the inner member, and a tough bearing steel can be used for the ring member to achieve both excellent brake function and bearing function.
