An image signal storing unit stores an image signal provided from the outside. An image processing unit appropriately processes the image signal stored in the image signal storing unit in accordance with the instruction from an adjusting unit. A projecting unit projects, onto a display area, light corresponding to an image created by the image processing unit. A display size determination unit computes the display size of the picture plane displayed on a screen based on an image captured by the camera provided adjacent to the projection-type video-image display device. The display size determination unit then determines whether or not the display size of the picture plane is equal to or larger than a predetermined upper-limit size.

An illumination apparatus includes: a red light valve configured to modulate red component light according to a red input signal; a green light valve configured to modulate green component light according to a green input signal; a blue light valve configured to modulate blue component light according to a blue input signal; a fourth color light valve configured to modulate a fourth color component light; and a color combiner configured to combine light emitted from the red light valve, the green light valve and the blue light valve. There are provided a write light valve for generating image-writing light by modulating write light, a driver for writing images into the write light valve based on image data, read light valves for each color for generating respective color image lights by modulating each received color illumination light, an imaging lens group for guiding the image-writing light emitted from the write light valve to the respective read light valves, a dichroic cube for combining together color image lights emitted from the respective read light valves, a projection lens for projecting each color image light combined together. The imaging lens group has a distortion aberration which reduces or cancels out a distortion aberration of the projection lens.

A light source controller includes a light source driver, a light amount sensor, a memory configured to store property information indicating a relationship between the drive current and the outgoing light amount for each level of the environmental temperature of the solid-state light source, and a controller configured to control the drive current supplied from the light source driver. Projection type video display apparatus, light deflection device in projection type video display apparatus, and direct-view type video display apparatus

There is provided a single panel type video display capable of increasing the luminance of image. A color separator separates light from a light source into light beams in three colors in a band shape to emit the light beams and introduces the band-shaped light beams in the three colors so as to be overlapped with one another in a predetermined region. A lens array wheel has a plurality of functional units each composed of a convex lens of a size corresponding to the predetermined region, circularly passes the plurality of functional units each composed of the convex lens through the predetermined region, and scrolls the band-shaped light beams in the three colors in a state where they are divided among regions on a single liquid crystal display panel. A video signal is fed to the liquid crystal display panel in synchronization with the movement of the plurality of functional units each composed of the convex lens.
