Compositions for cosmetics containing (A) one or more kinds of N-mono long-chain acyl basic amino acids, and (B) one or more kinds of N-mono middle-chain acyl basic amino acids, and compositions for cosmetics further containing (C) an inorganic powder, provide cosmetics that give, on application, a comfortable silky feeling and, to the skin after application, a natural translucency, good luminous finish and a uniform feeling of the skin surface, and have adhesiveness to the skin and high covering power.

Creamy cleansing compositions and creamy compositions which contain (A) at least one component selected from the group consisting of N-acyl acidic amino acid and a salt thereof, and N-acyl neutral amino acid and a salt thereof, (B) at least one polyhydric alcohol, (C) at least one N-mono middle-chain acyl basic amino acid or a salt thereof, and (D) water have good creamy appearance with high grade pearly gloss, are superior in form stability, and superior in the sense of use such as cream elongation, water miscibility, and the like.

Cosmetic powders which contain an N-mono long chain acyl basic amino acid and a particular &#x3b1;-aminolactam derivative are superior in spreadability on the skin and affinity to the skin upon application, and the lightness and moisture of the skin after application, as well as safety.

The present invention provides a thickening composition simultaneously exhibiting suitable thickening performance and superior usability, which contains N-long-chain acyl acidic amino acid and/or a salt thereof, an amphipathic substance, an inorganic salt, and water as essential components, and has a viscosity of not less than 200 mPa&#xb7;s. By the addition of the thickening composition, moreover, cleansing compositions and cosmetic compositions for skin, hair and the like, which maintain thickening performance and usability, while containing N-long-chain acyl acidic amino acid and/or a salt thereof are provided.

Creamy wash composition containing (A) at least one N-long-chain-acyl acidic amino acid or a salt thereof, (B) at least one polyhydric alcohol, (C) at least one nonionic surfactant, (D) at least one salt of a divalent or higher cation and a monovalent or higher anion, and (E) water are stable at a low temperature and exhibit good foaming properties and a good feeling upon use.

A wash composition comprises (A) an N-long-chain-acyl amino acid and/or its salt, especially an N-long-chain-acyl neutral amino acid and/or its salt and (B) hydroxypropyl starch phosphate. Further, it comprises (C) a fatty acid to improve foaming speed, and (D) an acyl acidic amino acid ester to improve moist feeling after drying.
