An electronic camera includes a shutter button. When the shutter button is half-depressed, a focal level of an object is determined on the basis of an image signal outputted from an imaging device, and a moving start position of a focus lens is settled on the basis of the determination result. More specifically, a correction amount of the moving start position is settled in accordance with the determination result of the focal level, and a position that subtracts the correction amount from a lens position at a time the shutter button being half-depressed is settled as the moving start position. The higher the focal level, the more reduced the correction amount. The focus lens gradually moves toward the imaging device from the settled moving start position, and a focal position is specified on the basis of the image signal outputted from the imaging device at each step.

Blue phosphor, light-emitting device, and plasma display panel

The present invention provides a blue phosphor that exhibits high luminance and shows less luminance degradation during driving of a light-emitting device. The present invention is a blue phosphor represented by the general formula aBaO.bSrO.(1&#x2212;a&#x2212;b)EuO.cMgO.dAlO.eWO, where 0.70&#x2266;a&#x2266;0.95, 0&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.15, 0.95&#x2266;c&#x2266;1.15, 9.00&#x2266;d&#x2266;11.00, 0.001&#x2266;e&#x2266;0.100, and a+b&#x2266;0.97 are satisfied. In this blue phosphor, two peaks whose tops are located in a range of diffraction angle 2&#x3b8;=13.0 to 13.6 degrees are present in an X-ray diffraction pattern obtained by measurement on the blue phosphor using an X-ray with a wavelength of 0.774 &#x212b;.

The present invention provides a plasma display device that has light emission properties with short persistence where green light has a persistence time of 3.5 msec or less, that is excellent in luminance, luminance degradation resistance, and color tone, and that is suitable for, for example, a stereoscopic image display device. A plasma display panel includes a front plate, a rear plate facing the front plate, and a phosphor layer formed on the rear plate. The phosphor layer includes a green phosphor layer containing ZnSiO:Mn and (Y, Gd)AlO:Ce, where 0&#x2266;X&#x2266;1. In ZnSiO:Mn, the amount of Mn is no less than 8 at. % to no more than 10 at. % relative to the total amount of Zn and Mn, and the total amount of Zn and Mn is no less than 197 at. % to no more than 202 at. % relative to the amount of Si. The amount of (Y, Gd)AlO:Ce is no less than 20 wt. % to no more than 50 wt. % relative to the total amount of ZnSiO:Mn and (Y, Gd)AlO:Ce.

A plasma display device provided with a green color phosphor which is charged entirely with a positive potential, adsorbs only limited amounts of water, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon, and not liable to cause chemical reaction thereto. A green color phosphor layer is formed of the green phosphor comprising at least one compound selected from among materials defined by the general formulae of M(GaAl)O:Mn(where 'M' denotes one of Zn, Mg, Ca and Sr), (YGd) (GaAl)(BO):Tb, (YGd) (GaAl)(BO):Ce, Tb, (YGd) BO:Tband (YGd)(GaAl)O:Tb.

Phosphor layers (G,B, andR) are made of a combination of: blue and green phosphors that are positively charged on their surfaces and baked in an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere to reduce oxygen vacancy, and that have a &#x3b2;-alumina crystal structure; and a red phosphor made of an yttrium oxide compound. Uniformly forming such phosphor layers on the wall surfaces of barrier ribs () provides equal charge characteristics of the phosphors of respective colors, reduces oxygen vacancy in the phosphors, and inhibits adsorption of various gases in the panel production process. This can stabilize the discharge characteristics and prevent luminance degradation at driving the panel.

Plasma display with phosphors containing a &#x3b2;-alumina crystal structure

In a phosphor whose host crystal is constituted of an oxide, a method of preparing the phosphor where the oxygen deficiencies in the phosphor are not many, and a plasma display device using the same are provided. After processes of weighing, mixing and filling powders of the phosphor, a process for firing in a reducing atmosphere and a process for firing in an oxidizing atmosphere after the last reducing atmosphere process are provided. In addition, a firing temperature in the oxidizing atmosphere process is not less than 600&#xb0; C. and not more than 1000&#xb0; C.

Plasma display device and method of preparing phosphor

Disclosed here is a plasma display unit that employs phosphors having an amount of charge controlled close to zero, by which degradation in luminance, color temperature, and charge characteristics can be minimized. A phosphor bearing positive or negative charge is coated with a compound for controlling the amount of charge of the phosphor through a strong chemical bonding, whereby the amount of charge of a phosphor can be suppressed within &#xb1;0.01 &#x3bc;C/g. Controlling the amount of charge of phosphors close to zero can keep impurity gases away from the phosphor particle when the panel is in operation, suppressing problems critical to driving a plasma display unit, such as luminance degradation of phosphors, improper alignment of color in panel operation, luminance degradation when the panel displays all white.
