The rotary magnetic head apparatus of this invention exhibits an optimum transfer characteristic similar to that in the conventional apparatuses even when the number of coil turns for the magnetic head is reduced to 10 or less. This is achieved by setting the number of secondary winding turns for the rotary transformer to 16 or less and by setting the number of primary winding turns for the rotary transformer in such a way that a product of a step-up ratio--defined as the number of secondary winding turns divided by the number of primary winding turns--and the number of coil turns will be around 50. This reduction in the number of turns of coil on the magnetic head, from 20 or 25 with the conventional apparatus to less than 10, results in a substantial reduction in the cost of magnetic head and therefore the rotary magnetic head apparatus.

Rotary magnetic head apparatus

In a magnetic head comprising a magnetic core formed by joining core halves of metal magnetic material, wear-resistant films are formed on both sides of the magnetic core in such a manner that they are located at both ends of the operating gaps in the tape slide surface of the magnetic head, with non-magnetic films arranged between the magnetic core and the wear-resistant films, whereby the magnetic head is high in wear resistance and can be manufactured with high efficiency.

Method of manufacturing a magnetic head having wear resisting films

A magnetic recording playback head and a method for producing the same having an improved wear resistance and resistance to chipping as well as an improved production rate. The head is formed from a pair of magnetic cores joined through a gap-forming film. The lateral sides of the gap are flat, except for the surface repair to contact the tape, which have a width equal to the track width. The flat sides are coated with a nonmagnetic thin hard film of a material such as alumina or titanium nitride.

A process for producing a magnetic head having a precisely defined recording width but which can be produced using simple process steps. Track width controlling grooves are formed in at least one of two core block halves made of a magnetic material. A thin film of a nommagnetic material, which serves as a gap spacer, is deposited on the bottoms of the track width controlling grooves and portions therebetween. A thin film layer of a metallic magnetic material is formed on the nonmagnetic thin film, and a thin film layer of a metallic magnetic material is formed on the surface of the other core to be brought into abutment against portions between the track width controlling grooves. The two core halves are then joined to form a core block with the thin film of metallic magnetic material on one core block half facing the thin film of metallic magnetic material on the other core block half. The thin films of metallic magnetic material are then etched away from all areas except where they contact each other as a result of the abutment of the two core block halves.

Process for producing magnetic head

A composite magnetic material and a magnetic head made from this composite magnetic material formed of a combination of a body of a magnetic metal material and a magnetic oxide material joined together in such a manner as to provide improved strength while attaining an improved manufacturability and regenerative sensitivity at high frequencies. In accordance with the invention, the two bodies are joined together with a thin magnetic metal film initially formed on the oxide material body by vapor deposition or sputtering. The thin magnetic metal film can be made of the same material as the magnetic metal material body.
