According to the method and the apparatus for curing a coated film of the present invention, since an ionization radiation is applied after the Oconcentration in the near-surface layer within 1 mm above the surface of the coated film is adjusted to 1000 ppm or lower, the coated film can be sufficiently cured by irradiation of the ionization radiation. In other words, according to the method and the apparatus for curing a coated film of the present invention, since the Oconcentration in a thin near-surface layer on the surface of a coated film is decreased, the coated film can be sufficiently cured by irradiation of an ionization radiation. As a result, the amount of inert gas supplied upon irradiation of an ionization radiation can be reduced, and downsizing and cost reduction of equipment can be achieved.

Method and apparatus for curing coated film

In an aspect of the coating method according to the present invention, the lower limit decompression degree Pat which a seam trouble occurs is obtained from the formula of the viscocapillary model. According to the aspect of the present invention, coating is performed by setting the Pso as to satisfy P&#x3c;P&#x2212;P&#x2266;P+0.2, and therefore, stepped unevenness can be effectively suppressed so that a seam trouble does not occur. It goes without saying that the aspect of the present invention can be applied to high viscosity/thick film coating, but it is effective especially in the case where a coating solution with low viscosity (for example, 0.005 Pa&#xb7;s or lower) is coated to be an ultra-thin film (for example, 10 &#x3bc;m or less in the wet film thickness) where stepped unevenness easily occurs.

A gravure coating apparatus containing a gravure roll, a manifold block for continuously coating a solution on an outer peripheral surface of the gravure rollby immersing a lower part of the outer peripheral surface in the solution, and a doctor blade for scraping off excess solution, a surface of a flexible strip support conveyed to the gravure roll being made in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the gravure roll to transfer and coat a prescribed amount of the solution on the surface of the flexible strip support. In a coating method and apparatus for applying coating liquid onto a web, the coating apparatus includes a rotating member rotatable and contacting with the web; and a support member supporting rotatably the rotating member and including a liquid reservoir formed between the rotating member and the support member, a fluid supply pipe, a cavity filled with the coating liquid and connecting to the fluid supply pipe, and a slit communicating the cavity with the liquid reservoir. The rotating member is supported by a fluid pressure of the liquid reservoir and the coating liquid supplied from the liquid reservoir forms a bead of the coating liquid by the rotating member between the web and the rotating member. The rotating member is floated uniformly in the widthwise direction by the fluid pressure so as to keep a predetermined clearance away from the support member to provide a stable coating. The bead is made uniform in the widthwise direction under any conditions.

A coating apparatus for coating a predetermined amount of a coating liquid uniformly onto a continuously running web, said coating apparatus being formed of a ceramic material obtained by sintering at a temperature of not less than 1,000.degree. C., said ceramic material having a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of not more than 11.times.10.sup.-6 /.degree. C. at temperatures of 25.degree. to 500.degree. C., and said ceramic material having a Vickers hardness of not less than 700 kg/mm.sup.2.
