In a display apparatus, a text code input section outputs externally-supplied text code information to a font conversion section and a voice synthesizer section. The font conversion section converts the input text code into a corresponding font, and transmits the font to a display drive section via a video signal input section, and the display drive section causes a display section to display the font. Meanwhile, the voice synthesizer section converts the input text code into corresponding voice data, and transmits the voice data to a voice device where the voice data is outputted. With this structure, superior convenience is ensured for a display apparatus which serves only as an individual displaying apparatus and relies on an external device (server) for the major functions of the system.

Display apparatus

In one embodiment of the present invention, a wireless interface is provided for supplying all signals and power exclusively wirelessly from a transmitting section to a receiving section. The transmitting section includes a transmitter arranged to modulate a carrier with signals, such as data, control and timing signals. The transmitter is connected to a transmit antenna which comprises a parallel resonant circuit in series with a series resonant circuit. The parallel and series resonant circuits include inductors which are inductively coupled to an inductor of a receive antenna in the receiving section.

In a display panel () performing sound generation/sound pickup through vibration, total thickness of a pair of transparent substrates () constituting its base is set suitably for a predetermined sound quality required as an acoustic device. Consequently, a card-type device for generating sound and/or picking up sound by vibrating the display panel itself and ensuring a desired sound quality without sacrificing the setup as a display is realized.

A liquid crystal module includes a liquid crystal panel and a support member configured to be contained in a mother device and to which the liquid crystal panel is mounted. A protection plate having protection function for the surface of the liquid crystal panel is attached to the support member, so that the protection plate, the liquid crystal panel, and the support member are made into a unitary block. Thus, it is possible to configure a liquid crystal module such that the protection plate has an additional function other than the protection of the liquid crystal panel.

A liquid crystal display device provided with an audio signal processing function, which includes an audio signal processing circuit with a large S/N ratio and a small glitch is provided. The display device of the invention includes a resistor string D/A converter circuit whose dynamic range can be increased by using a common power supply for a D/A converter circuit and a signal line driver circuit. Accordingly, a glitch generated in the D/A converter circuit can be reduced relatively to an audio signal and an S/N ratio of the D/A converted signal can thus be increased.

Liquid crystal display device and electronic apparatus

A card-type sound apparatus has, on a card-shaped substrate, a combination of a sound signal input portion to which a sound signal is input from outside and a sound generation portion that generates sound according to the sound signal input to the sound signal input portion, or a combination of a sound collection portion that collects sound from outside and converts the sound into an electric signal and a sound signal output portion that outputs to outside the electric signal obtained from the sound collection portion, or both of these combinations. The sound generation portion generates sound by making the card-shaped substrate itself vibrate according to the sound signal input to the sound signal input portion. The sound collection portion collects sound by converting the vibration of the card-shaped substrate itself into an electric signal.

An audio signal processing circuit for processing an audio signal which is compact and small is provided. For the audio signal processing circuit of the invention, an input circuit, a feedback circuit, and a smoothing circuit are formed using a chip capacitor with small mounting space and a thin film resistor on an insulating substrate. Accordingly, the audio signal processing circuit that is small and further a display device incorporating the audio signal processing circuit are provided.

A display device is arranged such that a voice device is laminated on a liquid crystal panel so as to be confined in a planar area of the liquid crystal panel, and a voice-system circuit block which drives the voice device is formed on the thin film substrate of the liquid crystal panel. A signal is inputted into the voice-system circuit block through an FPC which is connected to the thin film substrate and which inputs a video signal, and the signal processed at the voice-system circuit block is conducted through the FPC. A connecting terminal part is provided in a middle portion of the FPC and adhered to an FPC. One end of the FPC is connected to the voice device. In this way, a multifunctional display device can be achieved at low cost by efficiently using a limited space around the display element without sacrificing the advantages of a lightweight and thin-shaped flat display device.

Display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a sound output function. A sound output function can be added to a liquid crystal device having a light source while preventing any increase in the external size of the liquid crystal display device. The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a first substrate and a second substrate which oppose each other, a flexible printed circuit (FPC) connected to a brim portion of the second substrate, a light guide plate, and an LED. An excitation source is arranged at a portion corresponding to the back side of the FPC connection portion on the second substrate. The excitation source deflects and vibrates the second substrate of the liquid crystal display panel according to a sound signal from an outside source. That is, the second substrate is used as a vibration plate for the output of a sound. The liquid crystal display device can preferably be used for a liquid crystal module used in mobile devices such as a mobile telephone and a PDA.

D/A conversion having higher accuracy is provided by improving relative accuracy of the resistance value of resistors which configure a resistor string. A thin film circuit substrate is provided with a voice-output-section driving section, formed of a thin film layer on an insulative substrate, for driving a voice output section. An antisurge section, provided on a wiring between the voice-output-section driving section and an output terminal section thereof, includes an antisurge element. When a surge voltage is applied to the wiring, the antisurge element, monolithically formed on the thin film circuit substrate, connects the wiring to the ground so as to pass a current (surge current), generated by the surge voltage applied to the wiring, to the ground. This makes it possible to provide a thin film circuit substrate which is monolithically provided with a function which can protect a circuit section when a voltage exceeding a predetermined range is applied to the wiring linking the circuit section with an input terminal section or an output terminal section.

The invention provides a liquid crystal display device for displaying an image, having a signal processing function and a narrow flame.
