A console box for an automobile divided into first and second blocks. A first block is secured to an automotive body and comprises an inward flange formed at the upper edge of its opening, and a boss on the inner surfaces of two side skirt portions of the opening of the first block having an upper generally horizontal flat surface. A second block is provided with an upward groove formed in an extending flange at the upper end of the opening of the second block for closely engaging the inward flange of the first block. The second block further has L-shaped guide ribs having at the rear, a downward flat portion contacting closely with the upper flat portion of the bosses of the first block. The blocks are coupled by engaging the downward flange and the upward groove, contacting the upper flat portion of the bosses and the downward flat portion of the guide ribs and screw clamping the superposed portions of the openings of the blocks. Thus, the console box improves workability during assembly. Further, the positioning of the blocks in longitudinal, elevational and transverse directions during assembly is simply and readily achieved merely by coupling the blocks.

A construction for mounting a service hole blank cap of a console box is disclosed, wherein a portion of a slit formed in the console box, through which a hand brake lever penetrates, is a service hole. The undersurface of the peripheral edge of the blank cap abuts against the top surface of the rim of the service hole, and an engaging piece formed on the undersurface of the blank cap engages the undersurface of the rim of the service hole to thereby mount the blank cap. At least one fixing hole is formed in the top surface of the rim on each longitudinal side of the service hole. The blank cap is formed at the undersurface thereof with at least one fixing piece on each longitudinal side of the blank cap. Each fixing piece has a shape and location adapted for reception within a corresponding fixing hole to prevent longitudinal and transverse movement of said blank cap in said service hole.

An air diffusing register which comprises a register case disposed with a damper operating mechanism at the side thereof, a protector integrally formed with a register bezel for covering the damper operating mechanism, and engaged with the guide of the register case, thereby readily associating without increasing the number of parts and assembling steps and reliably preventing an interference between the wire harness and the damper operating mechanism and reducing the production cost. In this register, the protector can effectively prevent an interference between an wire harness and a damper operating mechanism without increasing the numbers of parts and associating steps, and readily assemble.

Air diffusing register

A windshield defroster includes a defroster outlet positioned within the dashboard of a vehicle, in which a cover plate is attached within the defroster outlet. The cover plate includes an opening and a plurality of bars which separate the opening into various sections, so that the bars within the cover plate prevent objects from dropping into the defroster outlet. The windshield defroster includes a duct attached to the bottom surface of the dashboard, and a heater is positioned within the duct, so that warm air can be distributed to the defroster outlet through the opening in the cover plate. The cover plate is swingably connected to the duct by a hinge, and the hinge is integrally formed with the duct and the cover plate. The cover plate has a lower surface in the vicinity of the hinge, and the duct has a horizontal first projection in the vicinity of the hinge. The lower surface of the cover plate is in contact with the horizontal first projection of the duct, and the cover plate is thereby horizontally supported without any additional support for the free end of the cover plate.
