A 1,3,5-triazine derivative represented by the following formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, independently from each other, represent a hydrogen atom or a group selected from the class consisting of linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl groups, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl groups, C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkynyl groups, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl groups substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy or alkylthio, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl groups, a phenyl group unsubstituted or substituted by a substituent selected from halogen, nitro, cyano, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio and fluoro-substituted lower alkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 aralkyl groups unsubstituted or substituted by a substituent selected from halogen, nitro, cyano, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, lower alkylthio and fluoro-substituted lower alkyl, and alkoxycarbonylmethyl groups having 1 to 6 carbon atoms in the alkoxy moiety; and Y represents a fluoro-substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl group and a herbicidal use thereof.

A phenol derivative represented by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a secondary or tertiary hydrocarbon residue of having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, X is ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 each is an alkylene group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, Z is an n-valent group and n is an integer of 1 to 8. This compound is effective to prevent the oxidation of organic materials.

An acetanilide derivative of the following formula (I) and a herbicide containing one or more of the acetanilide derivative as the active ingredient are described. ##STR1## In the formula, R.sup.1 is a lower alkyl group; R.sup.2 is a fluorine-substituted lower alkyl group; A is ##STR2## B is an optionally substituted pyrazolyl group, an optionally substituted alkoxy group or a hydrogen atom. The acetanilide derivative and the herbicide have a selective weed killing activity to gramiveous weeds.

A process for producing a thiolcarbamate compound of the following formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, an alkoxy group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a halogen atom or a nitro group, R.sub.2 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, m is 1 or 2, and n is an integer of 4 to 6, which comprises reacting an .alpha.-methylstyrene of the following formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is as defined above, or its dimer with hydrogen sulfide in the presence of a catalyst to form a mercaptan of the following formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 is as defined above, and reacting the mercaptan of formula (II) with a carbamoyl chloride of the following formula ##STR4## wherein R.sub.2, m and n are as defined.

Process for production of thiolcarbamates and the thiolcarbamates

In the process for the production of a thiolcarbamate compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are as defined in claim, comprising reacting a tertiary halogen compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein X and R.sup.3 are as defined in claim, with a thiolcarbamic acid salt of the formula ##STR3## wherein M represents a member selected from the group consisting of the alkali metals, ammonium group and immonium group, in an aqueous reaction medium, in the presence of a strong base; the improvement wherein the reaction is carried out under conditions in which the reaction system is adjusted to a pH ranging from about 9 to about 13.

Process for the production of thiolcarbamate compounds

In the process of subjecting a compound selected from phenols, N,N-dialkylanilines and mixtures thereof to nitrosation reaction conditions using a nitrite in an aqueous system to prepare nitrosated products selected from benzoquinone oximes and p-nitroso-N,N-dialkylanilines, the nitrosation reaction is advantageously carried out in the presence of an acid stronger than nitrous acid an organic acid of pKa 2 to pKa 5 or a salt thereof and water, the quantities of the organic acid and water being up to 5 times by mole and up to 10 times by weight the quantity of the compound to be nitrosated, respectively.

A wood preservative composition for control of wood decay by fungi, which comprises 2H-benzopyran-2-spiro-3'-phthalide or its derivatives such as 6-methyl-2H-benzopyran-2-spiro-3'-phthalide or benzo[f]-2H-benzopyran-2-spiro-3'-phthalide as an active ingredient. The active ingredient has extremely low mammalian toxicity, and exhibits an excellent wood-decay controlling effect.
