A transformer has a bar-shaped ferrite core, an inner winding wound directly around the ferrite core, an outer winding wound over the inner winding, and a dielectric shield surrounding the outer winding. The outer winding has its circumference covered by a dielectric sheath, and has an intermediate winding portion between its winding start end and its winding stop end. The dielectric sheath in the intermediate winding portion is spaced from each other along the axis of the ferrite core to leave thereat a gap which is filled with a molding material. By provision of the gap between the dielectric sheath of the outer winding, the molding material forming the dielectric shield can be easy to flow in between the dielectric sheath of the outer winding and the inner winding, avoiding the void from appearing between the inner and outer windings for attaining stable electrical characteristic.

Transformer

An electromagnetic device and a high-voltage generating device which are thin with improved characteristics includes a magnetic core of a cylindrical form of a ferrite material having a high intrinsic resistance. A winding is provided by winding a flat rectangular wire conductor in an edge-wise winding directly on substantially the entire length of the magnetic core. As an insulator, such as a coil bobbin, is not needed between the flat rectangular wire conductor and the magnetic core, the winding can be decreased in the overall size or thickness thus contributing to the reduction in dimension of the electromagnetic device. Also, as its flat rectangular wire conductor is wound directly on the magnetic core, the winding can be minimized in the length and thus the overall resistance.

A lamp socket and a discharge lamp lighting device are enabled to be dimensionally minimized by forming a socket body of the lamp socket with an integral synthetic resin molding of a case housing therein a starting circuit section and socket and connector sections, disposing a plurality of lead frames in the case, connecting the lead frames to primary and secondary windings of a pulse transformer, thereafter housing in the case electronic parts with their terminals placed in recessed grooves of the lead frames, and connecting the lead frames and terminals to constitute the starting circuit section.

Lamp socket and discharge lamp operating device

An edgewise winding system for a thin, flat-type conductor wire is arranged for winding the wire edgewise on a winding shaft while supplying the wire onto the shaft preferably in a direction substantially along the axial line of the shaft. To this end, the system includes a winder having a support face out of which the winding shaft projects, and a wire erector having an engaging face engaged with the wire supplied edgewise on the shaft to urge the wire against the support face of the winder for preventing just wound portion of the wire from falling and a wire supply part for guiding the wire in the direction substantially along the axial line of the winding shaft.
