A method for producing chlorosilanes, which are useful in a wide range of industrial field as an intermediate for organosilicon products such as silicone rubbers, silicone oils, silicone resins, etc. as well as a raw material for the production of organic chemicals such as medicines, agricultural chemicals, dyestuffs, etc., represented by the general formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.4, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a chloromethyl group, an ethynyl group or a halogen atom; R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R.sub.5 and R.sub.6, which may be the same or different, represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 2 carbon atoms; and R.sub.7 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms, which comprises reacting a disiloxane represented by the general formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are as defined above, or a silanol represented by the general formula, ##STR3## wherein R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.7 are as defined above, with phosgene in the presence or absence of a tertiary amide.

Method for producing chlorosilanes

m-Isopropenylphenol oligomer which is useful for the production of synthetic resins such as epoxy resins is produced by polyermizing m-isopropenylphenol at a temperature of 135.degree. to 230.degree. C. using a catalytic amount of an acid catalyst in the presence or absence of a solvent, or freezing m-isopropenylphenol in the presence or absence of an acid catalyst.

Oligomerization of m-isopropenylphenol

An oligomer of m-isopropenylphenol is produced by subjecting m-isopropenylphenol to thermal polymerization in the absence of a catalyst.

Oligomer of m-isopropenylphenol

m-Isopropenylphenol oligomer which is useful for the production of synthetic resins such as epoxy resins is produced by polymerizing m-isopropenylphenol at a temperature of 135.degree. to 230.degree. C. using a catalytic amount of an acid catalyst in the presence or absence of a solvent, or freezing m-isopropenylphenol in the presence or absence of an acid catalyst.

An epoxy resin of the formulae (I) and/or (II), ##STR1## wherein R and R' are each hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms and n is a mean value satisfying the equation, 0&lt;n.ltoreq.2, which is excellent in heat resistance, flexibility, curability and the like, and is useful in paints, adhesives, civil engineering and construction industry, electric appliances and the like.

Epoxy resins and process for producing the same

A compound of the formula (1), ##STR1## WHEREIN R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are individually a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl group, A is a hydrocarbon residue, and n is an integer of 2 or 3, provided that when R.sub.1 is a methyl group and each of R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is a hydrogen atom, the isopropenyl group ##STR2## is substituted at o- or m-position to the oxycarbonyl group ##STR3## which is useful as a crosslinking plasticizer for rubber.

Novel aromatic polyvinyl compounds

A method for treating a leather, characterized by treating a leather with a polymer [II] obtained by polymerizing 5 to 2,000 parts by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of acrylic esters and methacrylic esters in which the alcohol moiety is a hydrocarbon- or halohydrocarbon-group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, and 500 parts by weight or less of at least one vinyl compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.I and R.sup.II are independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a hydrocarbon- or halohydrocarbon-group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, or Y; Y is a group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and having a group selected from the group consisting of a carboxyl group, acid halide groups, a hydroxyl group, ether groups, and oxygen-containing cyclic compound residues; R.sup.III is an oxygen atom or &gt;N-R.sup.IV wherein R.sup.IV is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon- or halohydrocarbon-group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, in the presence of 100 parts by weight of a copolymer [I] comprising as essential components at least one monoethylenically unsaturated ester compound having 4 to 22 carbon atoms, at least one member selected from the group consisting of monoethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon compounds having 2 to 20 carbon atoms and halogen-substituted derivatives thereof and, if necessary, at least one diene or polyene compound. The thus treated leather causes no color bleed, has no tackiness, and has a coating film high in strength and impact resistance.

Method for treating leather

A method for bonding solid materials by use of a copolymer comprising at least one olefin having 3 to 20 carbon atoms and at least one acrylic ester compound containing an alcohol residue having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and at least one functional ethylenically unsaturated compound from among acryloyl halides or maleic anhydride.
