An image processing system having an input controller, a file server, an image setter, and a work station, each of which includes a separate and independent CPU. These CPUs operate simultaneously to provide high speed image processing. This system allows a user to combine and interactively edit various types of information, such as characters, designs and images, when the information is displayed upon a work station. After a user interactively edits this image information, a composed final image is stored in memory. The system also eliminates pattern frames, representing contour border lines around segments of the image, by superimposing an eliminating frame upon the contour lines.

In a color liquid crystal display device, the shape of a color filter cannot be seen and coloring of areas other than a display area due to leaking light is prevented. By making a first and second segment electrodes in a two layer construction, it becomes possible to display two different display image planes in different colors with only the single layer type color liquid crystal display device. Further, sufficient contrast can be obtained by using a liquid crystal element for compensation. It is also possible to display two kinds of display image planes, namely a color display image plane and a black and white display image plane. Two kinds of color display image planes can be displayed because the color liquid crystal display device is made in a two layered construction. A so-called normally black display and normally white display can be switched. Further, when the display state is switched between normally black display and normally white display, the background color changes and it is possible to maintain the same display color. Further display colors can be doubled as compared to the example of the prior art.

In a liquid-crystal color display having a pair of light-transmitting substrates disposed opposite each other sandwiching a liquid crystal layer between them and color selecting members and a light blocking member provided on one of the pair of light-transmitting substrates, light-transmitting pixel electrodes are disposed on the liquid crystal layer side of one of the light-transmitting substrates. The pixel electrodes disposed adjacent to each other correspond to different color selecting members and are formed extending into each other's display area in alternating fashion. Disclosed is a liquid-crystal color display having a pair of light-transmitting substrates disposed opposite each other sandwiching a liquid crystal layer between them and color selecting members and a light blocking member provided on one of the pair of light-transmitting substrates, wherein the shape of each pixel defined by the color selecting members and the light blocking member is a parallelogram with all four angles other than 90.degree.. A color liquid crystal display device in which a color filter is provided over the entire surface of the glass substrate. In a first embodiment, display electrodes extend over a plurality of color filter sectors to form segment electrodes. In a color liquid crystal display device of the invention, light-blocking members of predetermined configurations (characters, graphics etc.) are disposed on the surface of one side of a liquid crystal display element, that is to say the surface on the side opposite to the light source, and the predetermined configurations are displayed on the color liquid crystal display device by blocking the light from the light source with the light-blocking members. Further, a light-scattering plate is disposed between the light source and the liquid crystal display element, or between the liquid crystal display element and the light-blocking members. It is possible to allow transmission of a part of the light blocked by the light-blocking members by scattering the light which is transmitted through the liquid crystal display element with the arrangement of the light-scattering plate. Therefore, around the periphery of the light-blocking members, the color balance of the transmitted light breaks down and only a specific color of light is transmitted, thereby preventing the colored and blurred appearance of the peripheral part of the light-blocking members. A color image recording apparatus employing a liquid crystal shutter array in which a color picture can be recorded with high quality using a small-sized apparatus and without requiring complex operations. A liquid crystal shutter array of the apparatus includes pixel electrodes and a shutter common electrode disposed in opposition to the pixel electrodes with a gap therebetween filled with a liquid crystal, a pair of transparent substrates supporting the pixel electrodes and the shutter common electrode by sandwiching the pixel electrodes and the shutter common electrode therebetween, and polarization plates stacked on the respective outsides of the transparent plates. For recording an image on a photosensitive material with the employment of a liquid crystal device, the device used therein is conventionally constructed so as to modulate an amount of light rays transmitted therethrough or reflected thereby commonly by the control of an amount of electric voltage impressed to the liquid crystal device and/or impression timing or frequencies thereof. In this instance, although the light rays irradiated are considered normally as parallel, they are not intact strictly parallel light rays, and consequently unless the light rays transmitted from the device are converged by Selfoc lens arrays and the like, sufficient resolution can hardly be obtained on the photosensitive material on account of the light rays still having comparatively large diffusion coefficients. Since the liquid crystal device made in accordance with this invention is provided with its own image formation abilities, contact exposure with the photosensitive material is possible, and image formation optical systems which have been used in conjunction with the device is safely and advantageously eliminated, whereby parallelism limitations imposed on the irradiated rays can be reduced, and optical mechanisms therefor could be compact and have remarkably improved efficiencies.
