A coating composition is provided which contains (A) a co-hydrolytic condensate of a UV-absorbing alkoxysilane, a UV-curable alkoxysilane, and a tetraalkoxysilane, (B) a polyfunctional poly(meth)acrylate, and (C) a photobleachable photopolymerization initiator. Upon exposure to UV, the composition cures briefly at low temperature to form a cured film having durability, adhesion and transparency.

A photocurable coating composition is provided comprising (1) porous or hollow inorganic oxide fine particles, (2) a hydrolytic condensate of a bissilane compound or a cohydrolytic condensate of a bissilane compound and another hydrolyzable organosilicon compound, and (3) a photoacid generator. Due to the presence of voids in the resin, the cured coating has a low refractive index.

A composite resin is produced by hydrolyzing and condensing a silane compound (2) containing a bissilane compound (B) represented by:XRSi&#x2014;Y&#x2014;SiRX&#x2003;&#x2003;(B)wherein Y is a divalent organic group which is optionally substituted with a fluorine atom or a divalent organic group which optionally contains an aromatic ring, R is a monovalent organic group, X is OH group or a hydrolyzable group, and n is 1, 2, or 3; in the presence of (1) porous and/or hollow inorganic oxide fine particles (A); and which is an integral mixture of component (1) and component (2) which has undergone the hydrolysis and the condensation. The composite resin has voids in the resin since it contains porous and/or hollow inorganic oxide fine particles, and the composite resin can also be formed into a cured article or a cured coating with a reduced refractive index since it contains air which has the lowest refractive index.

An antifouling coating composition is provided comprising an organosilicon compound having a one end-blocked diorganopolysiloxane group and a condensation-curable silyl group in a common molecule, and optionally a heat-curable compound. The composition is applied and cured to a substrate to form a coat which has an improved surface protective function and durable water repellent and antifouling properties.

An antireflective coating having improved alkali resistance is formed on a transparent substrate of synthetic resin as an outermost layer and has a three-dimensional crosslinked structure containing F and Si atoms. The crosslinked structure is composed of Si&#x2014;O&#x2014;Si and Si&#x2014;CH&#x2014;(CF)&#x2014;CH&#x2014;Si linkages wherein n is 4 or 6; the molar ratio of F atoms to Si atoms is from 8.0 to 10.0; and perfluoroalkyl groups account for 90 to 100 mol % of all monovalent organic substituent groups attached to silicon atoms. The antireflective coating can exhibit such alkali resistance that when a droplet of a 1 wt % NaOH aqueous solution is rested on the antireflective coating for 30 minutes and then wiped off, the appearance of the coating is kept unchanged from the initial appearance.

A multilayer laminate is composed of a transparent substrate such as glass, ceramic or plastic on which are applied, in order, a protective layer, a high refractive index layer with a refractive index of at least 1.60, and a low refractive index layer with a refractive index of not more than 1.45, each having a specific resin-based composition. The resulting films, when cured, have an excellent adhesion to the substrate and exhibit outstanding mar resistance and antireflective properties.

A primer composition comprising (A) an acrylic resin, (B) a benzotriazole compound having not more than 1% by weight of heat loss when held at 150.degree. C. for 1 hour, and (C) an organic solvent. Also disclosed are an article obtained by forming a primer coat of the primer composition on the surface of a substrate, and an article obtained by forming the primer coat on the surface of a transparent plastic substrate and coating on the primer coat a protective coat comprising a condensation type curable silicone resin. The primer coat, which contains the above benzotriazole compound as an ultraviolet light absorber, has a superior weatherability while maintaining a good adhesion to the substrate.

A hard coating composition comprising an epoxy group-containing organic silicon compound and inorganic submicron particles such as silica sol is curable with a minimal amount of an antimony compound as the curing catalyst. The composition is thus stable during shelf storage and can be cured to a plastic optical article as a mar resistant hard coating film.

A primer composition dilluted with a suitable organic solvent comprising (A) an organic copolymer comprising an alkoxysilylated monomer, vinyl acetate and other monomers copolymerizable therewith, (B) a polyalkyl (meth)acrylate, (C) a crosslinking agent for said copolymer (A), and (D) an ultraviolet absorber.
