According to one aspect of a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a carpet for vehicles comprises a surface skin layerand a sound absorption layermade of a nonwoven fabric integrally bonded to the surface skin layervia an adhesive resin layer. The adhesive resin layeris constituted by an air permeable resin layer formed by melting thermoplastic resin powder having a particle diameter of not smaller than 320 &#x3bc;m but not larger than 1,000 &#x3bc;m. An adhered amount of the thermoplastic resin powder is 180 to 500 g/m. Air permeability of the entire carpet in a thickness direction thereof is 10 to 26 cm/cm&#xb7;sec. With this structure, excellent sound absorption performance can be exerted against noise entering into an inside space of a vehicle from the above side, such as, the roof, doors, or windows, as well as noise entering from the lower side.

Carpet for vehicles

A functional carpet suitable for use in an automotive vehicle. The functional carpet comprises a nonwoven fabric having piles formed throughout a whole surface of the nonwoven fabric. Each pile projects from the surface of the nonwoven fabric and is formed of at least a part of fibers constituting the nonwoven fabric. Each pile has a length ranging from 1 to 10 mm. The nonwoven fabric has a density ranging from 250 to 800 g/m.sup.2. Additionally, a fluoroplastics is adhered to a surface portion of the nonwoven fabric and extends substantially uniformly throughout the surface of the nonwoven fabric. The fluoroplastics includes linear tetrafluoroethylene telomer as a main body. The tetrafluoroethylene telomer has a number of carbon atoms ranging from 6 to 14. The amount of the fluoroplastics adhered to the surface portion of the nonwoven fabric ranges from 1.5 to 60 g/m.sup.2 in solid state.
