A method of manufacturing an electronic device includes a positioning step of positioning a first member supporting a laser diode with respect to a second member having a waveguide, a bonding step of bonding the first member and the second member together, and a checking step of checking the accuracy of positioning of the first member with respect to the second member. In the positioning step, the laser diode is energized to allow laser light to be emitted, and the laser light is allowed to be incident on the incidence end of the waveguide. In the bonding step, a bonding material is melted by irradiating the first member with heating light while the laser diode is not energized. In the checking step, the laser diode is energized again.

Method of manufacturing an electronic device

A method of manufacturing an electronic device includes a first bonding step of bonding an electronic component and a first member together via a first bonding layer and a second bonding step of bonding the first member and a second member together via a second bonding layer after the first bonding step. The second bonding layer includes a bonding material layer made of a bonding material. In the second bonding step, with the bonding material interposed between the first and second members before being bonded together, the bonding material is heated and melted using light traveling through the first member. The first member is made of Si. The light has a wavelength in the range of 1100 to 15000 nm.

A method of manufacturing a thermally-assisted magnetic recording head includes: providing a light source unit including a laser diode; providing a slider having a thermally-assisted magnetic recording head section thereon, the thermally-assisted magnetic recording head section including a magnetic pole, an optical waveguide, and a plasmon generator, the magnetic pole and the optical waveguide both extending toward an air bearing surface, the plasmon generator being located between the magnetic pole and the optical waveguide; driving the laser diode to allow a light beam to be emitted therefrom, the light beam including both a TE polarization component and a TM polarization component; performing an alignment between the light source unit and the thermally-assisted magnetic recording head section, based on a light intensity distribution of the TE polarization component in the light beam which has been emitted from the laser diode and then passed through the optical waveguide; and bonding the light source unit to the slider after the alignment is completed.

Method of manufacturing thermally-assisted magnetic recording head and alignment apparatus

In a conductive material supply apparatus that can connect a small slider electrode and a wiring electrode on a flexure in a miniaturized magnetic head, electrically conductive material is supplied, with the aid of flow of nitrogen gas that is pressurized to a first pressure, into the interior of a nozzle assembly that defines an interior space having a nozzle orifice through which the electrically conductive material can pass. After the electrically conductive material has been supplied, the flow of the nitrogen gas is stopped, and the interior space is temporarily brought into communication with the exterior space thereby decreasing the pressure in the interior space. Thereafter, nitrogen gas maintained at a second pressure that is designed to be lower than the first pressure is supplied to the interior space, whereby the electrically conductive material is ejected to the exterior from the nozzle orifice by the effect of the second pressure.

Apparatus and method for supplying electrically conductive material

A pallet main body is provided with a block holding member which presses a positioning surface of an actuator block against a block reference surface formed in the pallet main body, and a movable arm. An insertion member, which can be inserted between a plurality of opposing suspensions, is formed at a distal end of the movable arm. As a suspension to which a slider is to be attached contacts a first contact surface formed on the side in contact with this suspension, a distal end of the suspension to which the slider is to be attached is held at a prescribed height from the block reference surface, thereby forming a gap between this suspension and a suspension opposed to this suspension.

Provided is a method of manufacturing a magnetic head with which bonding of a slider and a suspension can be performed by taking an ABS pattern, which determines flying characteristics, as a reference, with no special fabrication required on the slider or the suspension. The method relates to a method of manufacturing a magnetic head for attaching a slider, on which an air bearing surface (ABS) is formed, to a suspension. A surface of the slider on which the ABS is formed is photographed, and the ABS and an engraved region formed within the ABS are identified from the photographed image. Then, a reference that serves as a guide in attaching the suspension is computed, and the slider is attached to the suspension based on the reference. It thus becomes possible for positive pressure and negative pressure that occur in the ABS to be well balanced centered about the suspension, making it possible to stabilize flying attitude and electrical characteristics.

Method of manufacturing magnetic head

After photographing a surface on which an ABS is formed, and the outer shape of a slider, the ABS and an engraved region formed within the ABS are identified from a photographed image. A reference that becomes a guide for attaching to a suspension is then computed, and a positional relationship between the reference and the outer shape of the slider is stored as association information. Next, the outer shape of the slider is measured, and measured values are compared to the association information and a reference is read out when attaching the slider to the suspension. An adhesive is discharged, from below, onto a suspension attachment surface of the slider based on the reference. The slider may then be attached to the suspension while holding the slider in a state where the ABS is positioned on an upper side of the slider.

Method of manufacturing a magnetic head and magnetic head manufacturing apparatus

To provide a method of, and a device for, detecting smear of a magnetic head, in which detection of smear development before magnetic head assembly is made possible by measuring electrical resistance values between pads and shields of a slider that is integrated with a head main body portion, and in addition, throughput increases. The method of detecting smear of a magnetic head includes measuring electrical resistance values between pads of a slider having an integrated head main body portion, or between the pads and a conductor portion that is connected to a shield of the head main body portion to thereby detect smear development.
