An acceleration sensor has a movable contact formed by a roll spring wound around a roller which can roll along a guide surface of a resinous frame, and stationary contacts mounted on the resinous frame to lie in a path of rolling movement of the roller. Two recesses are formed in the guide surface of the resinous frame and divided by a partition, and the stationary contacts are disposed in these recesses, respectively. The acceleration sensor ensures not only that the single movable contact be brought into contact with the two stationary contacts for conduction therebetween to thereby provide a function corresponding to two conventional acceleration sensors by a single acceleration sensor, but also that any dislocation of the two stationary contacts is restrained by the disposition thereof in the two recesses divided by the partition, thereby preventing short-circuit between both the stationary contacts.

An air bag device for use with a motor vehicle has an inflatable bag on the inner surface of which is provided a thin film-like layer of gas generating agent. At least one igniter is mounted in a part of the thin gas generating agent layer. When the vehicle encounters a collision, the gas generating agent is ignited by the igniter to generate gas. The gas fills up and thereby inflates the bag to restrain an occupant of the vehicle.

A control method for an automatic seat belt of an automobile including interconnecting a seat belt mechanism with a door of the automobile to operate the mechanism with opening and closing of the door so that the seat belt is automatically tightened when the door is closed and loosened when the door is opened, further comprising in addition interconnecting the seat belt mechanism with an ignition switch so that the seat belt is automatically turned from the tightened condition to the loosened condition even when the door is still closed if the ignition switch is turned off or an ignition key is removed from the ignition switch.

A steering device for a vehicle which comprises steering column members fixed to a body of the vehicle, a steering shaft rotatably mounted on the steering column members, a steering wheel fixedly connected to an upper end of the steering shaft, the steering wheel having first and second recesses, a receiving case member disposed coaxially with the steering shaft, the receiving case member being provided with first and third projections and rotatable together with the steering wheel by an engagement of the first projections and the first recess in the steering wheel, and a cancelling cam member disposed coaxially with respect to the steering shaft, the cancelling cam member being provided with a second projection that is engageable with the second recess in the steering wheel and with a third recess that is engageable with the third projection formed in the receiving case member, whereby the cancelling cam member is rotatable together with the steering wheel by the engagement between the second recess and the second projection and the engagement between the third recess and the third projection.

A neutral position indicator for an electrically conductive cable coiled in an automotive steering wheel includes a fixed storage case for storing the electrically conductive cable therein, the storage case including a rotatable member rotatable with the steering wheel, and a position indicator unit rotatably mounted in the fixed storage case and angularly movable for a first angular interval each time the rotatable member rotates through a second angular interval in response to completion of the rotation of the rotatable member through the second angular interval, the position indicator unit being indicative of a neutral position of the electrically conductive cable when the position indicator unit reaches a prescribed angular position. The storage case is covered with a cover having a window for allowing visual observation of the position indicator unit. The angular position of the rotatable member, i.e., the electrically conductive cable coiled in the storage case, can be indicated by the position indicator unit since the position indicator unit is angularly moved through the first angular extent each time the rotatable member rotates through the second angular extent. The neutral position of the cable can easily be confirmed by visually checking the angular position of the position indicator unit through the window.

A lifting device in a vehicle sliding roof device, wherein a link mechanism which connects the stay of a slide roof member to a slider slidably disposed on a guide rail is provided with a regulating member, and the guide rail is provided with a constraining member which constrains the lifting of the regulating member in association with the link mechanism. A cut-away portion for permitting vertical motion of the regulating member is provided at a slide roof member lifting position on the constraining member of the guide rail, and a lift guide is adjustably provided in the vicinity of such cut-away portion. In this manner, the slide roof member is lifted only at the position wherein the roof opening is closed, to thereby prevent the slide roof member from being lifted unexpectedly at a position other than such closed position.
