A process for producing an electrophotographic photoreceptor including a step of coating a light-sensitive layer on an electroconductive base, a step of removing part or all of oxidants present from an air atmosphere by an oxidants removing unit, a step of dealing with a coating solution for forming the light-sensitive layer in the air atmosphere from which concentration of oxidants is suppressed by the step of removing part or all of oxidants present, and a step of suppressing variation in the concentration of oxidants in the air atmosphere, wherein the step of dealing with the coating solution for the light-sensitive layer includes at least one of the steps of preparing the coating solution for forming the light-sensitive layer, applying the light-sensitive layer and drying an applied coating.

Process for producing an electrophotographic photoreceptor and the electrophotographic produced by that process

There is disclosed a process for manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor having no coating defect, a high charging performance, an excellent stability in a repeated use, and no image quality defect. The manufacturing process comprises the steps of coating a subbing layer-forming coating solution on the conductive substrate under an environment having a dew-point temperature in the range of from 5.degree. C. to 10.degree. C.; drying the coated solution under an environment having a dew-point temperature in the range of from 10.degree. C. to 20.degree. C. to prepare a subbing layer; coating a photosensitive layer-forming coating solution on the subbing layer under an environment having a dew-point temperature in the range of from 5.degree. C. to 10.degree. C.; and drying the coated solution under an environment having a dew-point temperature in the range of from 10.degree. C. to 20.degree. C. to prepare a photosensitive layer.

Method for manufacturing an electrophotographic photoreceptor

An electrophotographic photoreceptor having a high chargeability and a low dark decay is disclosed, which comprises an electrically conductive support having formed thereon a light-sensitive layer containing as a charge generating material a pigment which has been subjected to an acid washing treatment to lower the content of metal impurities below 500 ppm or less.

The present invention provides an apparatus and a method for forming a uniform and smooth coating film on a surface of a cylindrical body, for example, for production of an electrophotographic photosensitive body. The apparatus of the present invention includes a float having a space portion formed in the inside thereof for floatation in the liquid surface of the paint. The float is specifically formed so that even in the case where the paint contains a solvent that gradually evaporates, no bubbles are generated from a lower portion of a hollow cylindrical body during the coating step, because the pressure rising inside the hollow cylindrical body is moderated by the space portion of the float.
