A request is received from a user device. In response to the request, respective penalty scores for VPN servers are calculated. A respective penalty score for a VPN server is calculated based on a time of creation of the VPN server such that a first VPN server of the VPN servers having a first creation time that is earlier in time than a second creation time of a second VPN server of the VPN servers is assigned a higher weight than the second VPN server. One or more of the VPN servers are selected based on the respective penalty scores. Respective internet protocol (IP) addresses of the one or more of the VPN servers are transmitted to the user device.

Using creation times in identifying optimal VPN servers

A method in a virtual private network (VPN) environment is disclosed. A user device transmits, to a VPN server before establishment of a VPN connection between the user device and the VPN server, an initiation request to establish the VPN connection. The initiation request includes remote content information indicating remote content that is unavailable in a geographic location of the user device. The user device receives, from the VPN server after establishment of the VPN connection, the remote content based at least in part on a configuration of domain name services (DNS) settings associated with the VPN connection to utilize a remote DNS server that is capable of obtaining the remote content. Various other aspects are contemplated.

Providing a split-configuration virtual private network

A system and method to filter potentially unwanted traffic from trackers, third-party cookies, malicious websites or other sources and present the aggregated results of said filtering to the VPN user. One of the embodiments enables a VPN user to opt-in or opt-out from the filtering activities while being able to access the aggregated information about filtering. In another embodiment, the user can choose to customize the filtering parameters to add or remove specific targets from the filtering policies.

System and method for decentralized internet traffic filtering policy reporting

A method including receiving, at a processor, credential requests for accessing the VPN environment from a first user device using a first interface and from a second user device using a second interface; transmitting, to the first user device, a first credential based at least in part on the first user device using the first interface; and transmitting, to the second user device, a second credential based at least in part on the second user device using the second interface, the first credential being different from the second credential. Providing a notification system in a virtual private network

A method associated with a split-configuration virtual private network (VPN), the method including receiving, by a VPN server from a user device prior to establishment of a VPN connection between the VPN server and the user device, an initiation request to establish the VPN connection, the initiation request including remote content information indicating remote content that is to be requested by the user device after the VPN connection is established, the remote content being unavailable in a geographic location of the user device; and configuring, by the VPN server based at least in part on the remote content information, domain name services (DNS) settings associated with the VPN connection to associate the VPN connection with a remote DNS server that is capable of enabling the VPN server to obtain the remote content after establishment of the VPN connection is disclosed. A method including transmitting, by a requesting user device to an infrastructure device associated with a virtual private network (VPN), a connection request for receiving VPN services; receiving, by the requesting user device from the infrastructure device, connection information associated with a VPN server selected for providing the VPN services to the requesting user device, the VPN server being selected based at least in part on a comparison between a parameter associated with the requesting user device and a current parameter associated with another user device currently receiving VPN services from the VPN server; and transmitting, by the requesting user device to the VPN server, an initiation request to receive the VPN services from the VPN server based at least in part on utilizing the connection information is disclosed. Server picking in a virtual private network

A request for an optimal virtual private network (VPN) server for a user device is received. The optimal VPN server is selected from a set of VPN servers. For each of the VPN servers, respective numerical weights are calculated based on respective conditions. A respective penalty score is calculated for each of the VPN servers based on the respective numerical weights. The optimal VPN server for the user device is identified based on the respective penalty scores. An internet protocol (IP) address of the optimal VPN server is transmitted to the user device.

Dynamic system and method for identifying optimal servers in a virtual private network

A request for a virtual private network (VPN) server that is an optimal VPN server for a user device is received. Respective penalty scores for VPN servers including the optimal VPN server are calculated. A respective penalty score of a VPN server is calculated based on whether the VPN server is in a same country as the user device and a proximity of the VPN server to an international Internet exchange hub. The optimal VPN is server is selected based on the respective penalty scores. An internet protocol (IP) address of the optimal VPN server is transmitted to the user device.

The present embodiment relates to method and system for dynamically identifying the optimal servers from among a plurality of VPN servers. The method and system to score or rank the plurality of VPN servers through mathematical operations to produce a scored list of servers. The servers are dynamically scored based on several server conditions including but not limited to server location, server hub score, server creation time, server load, captcha rates and other like information. The method and system further calculate server penalty scores for a plurality of VPN servers and dynamically identifies optimal servers based on the least server penalty score. Further, the method and system provide means for the VPN service provider to direct their users to connect with the optimal servers consistently.

A method for providing a notification system in a virtual private network (VPN), the method comprising receiving, from a user device, an indication that data of interest is to be requested, the indication including domain information associated with a host device capable of providing the data of interest; and transmitting, based at least in part on the domain information, a notification indicating to the user device that the data of interest to be requested from the host device potentially includes harmful content.
