A method of obtaining x-rays of blood vessels of the circulatory system involving injection of radiopaque dye using a novel balloon catheter is described. The novel balloon catheter has a tube with two separate lumens, for each conducting a separate fluid flow along the length of the tube. An orifice is provided in each lumen at the proximal end of the tube for separately introducing a fluid flow into each lumen. A distal tip end of the tube has perforations for perfusing fluid flow from only the first lumen to an exterior of the catheter. A balloon, provided proximal of the perforations of the distal tip end of the tube, is in fluid flow communication with only the second lumen to provide selective fluid inflation of the balloon.

Angiographic and arteriographic balloon catheter

An arterial cuff graft eversion instrument including a handle with a longitudinally straight wire extending distally from the handle distal end. The wire terminates at its distal end in a 'pig-tail' loop of a circular configuration. The open 'pig-tail' loop allows arterial cuff graft eversion without the need of suturing the end of the graft to the instrument prior to the eversion procedure.

Arterial cuff graft eversion instrument

A prosthetic grafting method for vascular bypass surgery is disclosed wherein a section of a blood vessel which is non-functional is excised and restored for use as a blood vessel. At least one cuff is severed from the restored excised section and sutured to an end of a prosthetic graft. Alternatively, the cuff may be severed from another suitable donor vessel. The cuff and the graft are then attached to blood vessels downstream and upstream, respectively, of the now removed excised section to form a new flow passage around the formerly non-functional section.

Prosthetic grafting method for bypass surgery

The device comprises a plurality of elongated filamentary loops extending outwardly from a central column in one or more tiers, the filaments having hooks backed by offset barriers at their free ends. The column is preferably hollow. The device is inserted into a passageway such as a vein with the loops held back toward the column and biased to open when released, and hook into the vein wall to form a network or web to engage and hold blood clots in the vein. The device anchors itself in place without injury to the wall of the passageway. It is self-centering and self-cleaning. Preferably the device is inserted over a wire guide threaded through the column and introduced into the vein through a hollow needle puncture.

Embolus trap

A surgical blood vessel holding device is described having shank means in a middle region with a holder on one end and a narrow prong on the other end. The prong is provided with a hook extending laterally from the side thereof. The prong is adapted to be inserted into the open end of a blood vessel until the hook reaches the distal end of the vessel. The hook then pierces the vessel wall, allowing the device to dispose the end of blood vessel in facing relationship with respect to an opening in the wall of another blood vessel. The blood vessel can be locked onto the hook. Thereupon, suturing of the vessels is initiated, but not completed. The prong is then unhooked and removed and the suturing process is completed without the device to provide a continuous blood flow path between the two blood vessels.
