The present invention provides a standard testing methodology for making quantitative determinations as to the chemical resistance of thermoplastics commonly used for non-disposable medical devices by evaluating the retention of tensile and/or impact properties of the thermoplastic materials after exposure to chemicals associated with healthcare grade disinfectants. Versions of the test methods may be used with any of a variety of different thermoplastic materials, each having a different stiffness or elastic modulus; and versions of the test methods may be used with any of a variety of different hospital grade cleaning agents or disinfectants. Using the methodology of embodiments of the present invention, different thermoplastic materials may be tested against different cleaners or disinfectants to provide a uniform basis for comparison. This allows those who make chemicals, polymers and medical equipment to have a uniform way of evaluating those materials for compatibility with various cleaners and disinfectants used in the medical industry to make objective comparisons, and to allow end users to make the same evaluations and comparisons.

Method for evaluation of chemical resistance of thermoplastics

A composition can be used for producing a PMMA-based cast polymer with a low styrene content using urea (derivatives) as a formulation constituent, and a hydrophilic inorganic compound as a filler. It is possible to produce PMMA-based cast polymers and mouldings having surprisingly high mechanical stability from the composition.

PMMA-based cast polymers having improved mechanical properties

The present invention relates to novel PMMA foams and the production thereof. Here, polymers which have been obtained by copolymerization of methacrylamides such as N-isopropylmethacrylamide and without styrene are foamed. It has surprisingly been possible to establish that a stable, simple-to-produce PMMA foam which has very good properties, e.g. a very high compressive strength, and can be joined more simply to covering layers, especially in comparison with known PMMA foams, can be obtained according to the invention.

Improving the properties in PMMA foams by using methacrylic amides

The present invention relates to novel types of PMMA foams and also to the production thereof. The recipes used in the production process include particularly crosslinkers and chain transfer agents as recipe constituents, mostly in low concentrations, in addition to suitable blowing agents. It was found that, surprisingly, the invention provides a simple-to-produce stable PMMA foam having very good properties.

The present invention relates to a method for cutting rigid foams, especially slabstock P(M)I foams. A method is provided here, by means of which it is possible to cut these rigid foams even in relatively high layer thicknesses of, for example, more than 3 mm, without material loss, which is produced in relevant amounts, for example, in the course of sawing as a result of the sawdust formed.

Splitting of thick hard-foam plates

The invention relates to a process for the production of prefoamed poly(meth)acrylimide (P(M)I) particles which can be further processed to give foam mouldings or composites. A feature of this process is that a polymer granulate is first heated and thus prefoamed in an apparatus by means of IR radiation of a wavelength suitable for this purpose. Said granulate can be further processed in subsequent steps, e.g. in a press mould with foaming to give a moulding or a composite workpiece with foam core.

Prefoaming of poly(meth)acrylimide particles for subsequent foam moulding in closed tools

The invention relates to a process for the production of mold-foamed poly(meth)acrylimide (P(M)I) cores, in particular of polymethacrylimide (PMI) cores, which can be used by way of example in automobile construction or aircraft construction. This is tantamount to an elongation at tear that is higher in comparison to the prior art.
